Apartment Arezzo is owned by Case Sicilia (---------------------------) run by Lilla Occhipinti. I wanted to post that this apartment was fantastic, and that Lilla's customer service was outstanding! It is on via Arezzo, in the heart of Ortigia, near via Cavour. (Map: ------------------------------------------------------------ which includes local sights)

The apartment is charming and was spotless, a large living room, decent sized kitchen and great bedroom (yes, it did have A/C that worked very well in the 37 degree heat!). There is even a private balcony on top, where we enjoyed spending evenings. Being on Ortigia, many sights are very nearby, including the Piazza Duomo. Lilla left suggestions on local conveniences, including restaurants, that was very handy (Pescamore, on via Cavour, was a great local place to eat! Make sure to also try the local snack "arancini" that is offered at many local Tavola Calda, delicious fried rice balls!)

We spent three days there and loved it. We considered calling her to try and extend the stay, but unfortunately, our schedule did not allow it.

Her website is ----------------------- As you can see she offers other properties around Siracusa. We had a great time and I would definetely reccomend the place! Her phone, as per the web site, is phone +---------------

“Bellissima Ortygia!”

Fantastic! I spent 2 weeks in Siracusa and Ortygia over the Christmas holiday. THe weather was sunny and the air comfortable. Siracusa is not a walking city, but has a lot to offer in the way of Greco and Roman ruins, but Ortygia captured my heart with its pedestrian-friendly streets. The best places were Cafe Medusa for espresso (off the Piazza del Duomo), Viola's for their espresso and marzipan, The Bull Cafe (we had to try their version of American cuisine). Otherwise, you can find very inexpensive ceramic shops, wine shops, tobacchi, papyrus artisans (the area is famous for the papyrus) and of course, the architecture, architecture, architecture! Every corner you turn, there are beautiful balconies, intricate carvings of people and animals, there are secreted courtyards where you least expect them. Ortygia has a feel to the place that is not modern nor antique. I promise you that it will enchant you. The best place to stay is at Hotel Relax in Sircusa! The view from this hilltop resort of the Ionian sea, Siracusa and the entire island of Ortygia is gorgeous! Also, for those who want a great vacation but are on a tight budget, Sicily is terribly inexpensive! An average dinner out, with everything (wine, desert, etc.) cost about $25 American for 2 people. Also, I had to buy an extra large suitcase while I was there to fit all the goodies I picked up (like merino wool pant suits for less than $75 American) and still didn't spend all of the money I had. Lets put it this way: an espresso cost $0.60, with a brioche, $1.00. At Dunkin Donuts, I can't get a small coffee for less than this. Enough said?
