The hotel was recently renamed "nh anglo-american" and is now part of the nh group.
We stayed in the hotel 1 night and are only partially satisifed for the price we paid.
The hotel has an old structure, although it's clean and the furnishing is good and the rooms are quite big.
The staff is very friendly and cares about the comfort of the guests.
The most relevant problem was the noise in the room (mainly showers and toilets of neighbouring rooms), really not soundproof...
However the location is convenient and hopefully the new owner will introduce some modern comforts in the rooms.

Stayed fro April 16- 20th.
Booked 2 standard rooms. 1 for my husband & myself, another for my son. Felt the standard room was too small for two people. I went to reception and asked about a bigger room. I was offered an upgrade to a De-luxe Room for the price of Superior 30 euro a night extra. It was well worth the extra.
The staff at the Hotel were most helpful. It was very clean and the breakfast excellent. The only thing I found having stayed in Florence before that it is quite a walk to the centre and after a long day sightseeing it, and its quicker to walk than get a cab or bus.. Aslo being close the river was a problem with mossie bite in the heat. The room had to be sprayed.

We stayed at this hotel as part of a Princess Cruise land tour in Italy. After staying at the Melia Milano hotel in Milan, which was beautiful, clean, well-maintained, and quite large, we were very disappointed with the Anglo American. The front desk staff was rude and unfriendly, and our rooms were very small, cold, and gave the impression they needed a make-over. The beds were hard and there were only 2 small pillows on our queen size bed. When we asked for another, it never came. The bathrooms in both rooms had a distinct mildew smell and weren't the cleanest. We also were not impressed with the breakfast available downstairs in the hotel... the eggs were cold and runny, the "sausage" was cut up hotdogs, and the coffee tasted instant and bitter. There weren't too many good restaurants nearby, we ended up eating one block up at a pizza place both nights since my kids refused to eat what they had to offer in the hotel for dinner (and it was too expensive to eat there if you weren't going to really enjoy the food!). All in all, I was glad to leave after 2 nights. That was more than enough. I did forward my comments on to Princess, as did many others in our group. We were all disappointed in this hotel.

The room was spacious with large windows overlooking a residential street just outside the historic district. The electric bus to downtown was a couple blocks away, Avis was about four blocks, the train station a 5 to 10-minute cab ride.
The large room, as well as large bathroom were very clean and comfortable and the location was quiet.
Some at the desk gave us incorrect information or didn't know the answers to our questions, but Benedetta was very helpful when she was on duty.
Four blocks away on Borgognissanti, we found bakeries and a wine and cheese store for daily purchases. Also on the same street was Avis and Trattoria Armando.
Trattoria Armando had great food, tasty and well presented. (The price is above others in the area.) The service was amazing. The night we visited, a wait staff of two served us, a group of 20, as well as others. We had questions answered and received attentive care and timely service. The food was memorable.
Besides the uneven front desk staff at the hotel, the maid not only cleaned our room but removed our half-bottle of wine we were expecting to enjoy on return from sightseeing.
Anglo American Hotel is a good bet for a comfortable stay, but it did not provide the exceptional experience we found at others on our trip to Italy.

The hotel is a five minute walk from the train station in a quiet area and approx. 20mins from the centre of the city. We found the staff to be very welcoming and helpful. Our room was outstanding, big enough for a massive double bed, a writing desk and a sofa and two chairs. The whole of the room was spotless as was the rest of the hotel. There is a nice bar area where we used to relax after taking the evening air and eating in one of the local restaurants.

We really enjoyed our time in Florence and would recommend this hotel to anyone
