This hotel in the Fossabanda district of Pisa is a treasure!! First of all; the Fossabanda district has not a lot of restaurants and sights, but it is not far from the pedestrian area of Pisa and all the restaurants in the old city. It is a nice walk longing the river or through the center towards the Piazza di Miracoli whith the Cathedral complex. What is nice, is that you get away from all the hustle and bustle in the more touristic areas of Pisa. Back to the hotel itself. This is an old monastery that has been turned into a hotel. The photos on the web page doesn't lie. There is a lovely columned "cour" where a nice breakfast is served, you can sit inside or under the columns. Our room was nice and authentic. Actually it was an old cell converted into a clean and comfy room. Maybe a bit austere, but I liked the simplicity and cleanliness, it really goes well with the historic atmosphere. Lovely dark, wooden furniture in our room, nice beds, and a very nice tiled bathroom. (The towels are more like sheets, but that's the italian way, so just get used to it.) And the view of the columned court from our room was wonderful! I wold definitely recommend this hotel, I'll say book it right away! Helpful receptionnist and nice service in general.

booked hotel then read some of the reviews so therefore arrived with trepidation however our fears were groundless. Staff very friendly, room abit of a shock due to being very sparse but soon got use to it and what does one need really a bed wardrobe and shower. Very clean and breakfast just fine. Would recommend, good value for the money.

We booked for a couple of days. The first night it was not possible to stay there because it was a problem with the room (something broken in the toilet), so they offer us to go to another hotel, and they would pay the taxi and our stay there. The hotel was Touring Hotel that was more expensive (we didn't have to pay the difference), but not so good. In fact, the second day we went back to Santa Croce in Fossabanda.
This is a quiet hotel, not far from de city centre (in fact 15 minutes walking) in a charming area of the city. The staff there was very friendly (even we forgot the problem we have had with our room the day before!) and professional. In fact, we are a gay couple, but they didn't make us those stupid questions like "are you sure you booked a room with only one bed?".
The room was simple, clean and nice (specially the old ceiling).The breakfast very suitable and full. And the whole hotel, a lovely piece of History. We recommend it to everybody.

Booked and accepted thru Venere in April for 2 couples, one night in mid-October. Arrived by taxi from airport, received with info that they had no rooms, some other guests had wanted to stay longer. They had found another hotel for us, the Royal Victoria, overlooking the river, 'better'. Santa Croce did NOT pay the taxi to the Royal. It is not acceptable for a customer to be turned away at such a short notice. Apart from that, the little we say of the premises (reception area, breakfast room, atrium) seemed okay.
Because of the turn-down I shall not give this hotel more than 0.5 when 5 is maximum.
