I stayed with a friend at this 'agritourism' small hotel/ farm for a couple of nights in June 2006.
Location
The hotel is about 15 mins drive from Pisa Galilei airport or Pisa train station (€20 by taxi). It is situated very near a motorway and a main railway route running along the coast, however you cannot hear the noise except for some fast trains. The farm is located in the middle of a wooded/ field area with only a few odd houses around. We didn't have a car so we couldn't really go anywhere, but if you have a car the farm is a great location for exploring Tuscany with places such as Pisa, Lucca or Viareggio (beach town) all within 1/2 hour drive. You can rent bikes at the hotel but you cannot go very far as all the roads/ paths around the farm are cut off by natural reserves borders or railway. You can also go horseriding.
The hotel
The hotel is a nice old Tuscan house surrounded by trees, stables, small farm and fruit orchades. It has a nice small and private pool with sun beds and umbrellas. It feels very private as the hotel is small and there are only a few guests and it is surrounded by trees. The pool is cleaned every morning. There is a TV with a few sofas in the reception area (no TV in rooms).
Rooms
We were pleasantly surprised by the rooms. They are quite spacious and have lovely antique furniture, terracotta floors (a bit cracked) and wood-beam ceilings. Even though it was over 30 degrees outside we didn't feel hot at night. The hotel provides fans and also moschito nets in the windows. We had 2 rooms, both having a double bed and 1 single bed and they shared a small bathroom. However, all other rooms are supposed to have their own on-suite bathrooms. Both rooms had sinks. Rooms either face the front of the hotel (stables and pool) or the back (fields and little bird farm).
Restaurant/ Breakfast
Breakfast was great as they make any type of fresh hot drink on request! Lovely cappuccinos! The buffet is small and cold food only - 1 type of bread, jams, nutella, croissants, home-made cake, yoghurts, fresh fruit from their garden and orange juice. There is a bar opened all day till 10pm that makes fresh coffees, serves cold drinks, some snacks, sandwiches and ice-cream. The restaurant room is lovely - with vaulted ceilings and many horseshoes on the walls as it used to be stables. You can also eat outside in the garden. Dinner is served at 8 o'clock and you need to pre-book at least a few hours before dinner. The menu changes every day and gives a choice of 2 starters and 2 main courses. Food was mediocre (typical Tuscan dishes), but had nice fresh ingrediences. Beware - there were no vegiterean choices for the main course, so you better inform the hotel of your dietary requirements before arriving!!!
Family
Great place for families - with the pool, stables, animals, bikes and even swings! I saw baby chairs in the restaurant too.
A few tips:
If you plan to take taxi from the airport, better to pre-book a cab to wait for you as there is a lack of cabs at the airport and long queues.
Take moschito spray with you! No moschitos in rooms, but it is a countryside so many outside in the evening and they are huge! We got bitten soooo much!!!
Great place to get away from it all and relax in the private gardens and by the pool. But car essential as there is nothing to do around there in the evenings. All in all I loved the place!
