This hotel is a disgrace. We chose it out of the mid range section of Lonely Planet, and what a mis-description. I doubt the author had actually been there.
Firstly, it's located by one of the gates to the Leaning Tower area. You might think this is good, but in fact it's awful. There are hoardes of North African hawkers trying to sell you every piece of tat under the sun, and right under your window/by the front door. It's also located on probably the busiest noisiest road in Pisa.
Our first room literally was a hot cupboard. You could barely get your legs between the walls and the bed and there was no window! Yes you read that right.
When we asked to change rooms they said they were fully booked. It was only when we said we were leaving that they happened to find another room. This one was a little bigger, but boy, was it noisy, and we're talking nearly third world standards. The square outside remained a honeypot for noise, day and night. The aircon was broken (visibly, so no excuse), so it was either windows open and zero sleep, or shut and an experience similar to sleeping in a greenhouse with an open sewer. Yes the bathroom, and hence the room, filled with choking sewer smells.
Having told the receptionist (in a small gap where she got off her mobile) that we would be leaving promptly in the morning, we were further disappointed (but unsurprised) to find that not only had the receptionist not bothered to turn up for work (one of only two staff members, and the only one who spoke English and could work at reception), but that breakfast was not ready by 7am as it should have been (possibly fortunate as it consisted of plastic wrapped cheese and homebake croissants). So our departure was a hungry one, offering to help the other poor residents who couldn't order a taxi to the station (no receptionist).
If you have the option of sleeping in your car, take it. The website is possibly the most misleading piece of advertising I've ever seen.
