“Wow, didn't want to leave!”

We drove here from Venice with a brief stop in Florence. We ended up driving to the hotel in the dark, late at night which is not a good idea. Make sure to get good directions!

ROOM: Great! White on white. Nice balcony overlooking the garden and views of the country side. The bathroom was great with a jet tub with robes and slippers. The tub was a perfect w ay to unwind at night.

SPA/POOL: Freaking amazing! The outdoor pool is very small and made for relaxing. There a recliners in the water with air jets to massage you in the pool, very nice. It was a great way to start the morning. Following the outdoor pool, we went inside to experience the spa services that are included. There are 8 different spa stations that you go through in a certain order, depending upon if you want to relax or rejuvinate. Some of them included a hot/cold foot bath, hot/cold shower, steam sauna, mint shower, ice bath, herbal sauna, and massage shower. The massage shower is the best! You walk through 3 different stages, the first has high pressure water that rains down from above alternating hot/cold, next you proceed to side nozzles, then to a gentle rain shower that just tingles! Sooo good!

FOOD: Did not eat there.

OVERALL: Amazing experience. We think this would be a great location to use to explore Tuscany. When we come back to Italy, we are going to stay here for much, much longer.

Honestly this entire review may be jaded as I was spoiled in 2 other Hotels in Italy in Rome and Sienna but this hotel tries to be more than it is.
I initially booked a room for myself and another and no problem when we wanted two seperate rooms. However the rooms were somewhat small, musty, and in the second building and felt second rate.
What really irked me was that when my mom asked to change about 100$ in travelers checks, they would not do it-note, the bank was in town not next door, and much to my surprise after letting it go the evening before was that, the next day, one of the Concierege actually admitted it would mean for him to go to the bank in town and do the actual exchange-it appeared as if he just didn't want to. Note, we were in the countryside, not in the town. I also noticed on our departure that a gentleman carrying U.K. pounds asked for an exchange and was told to go into town.
The restaurant was o.k. but very expensive and on the whole the feeling was we were doing them a favor by staying there not the reverse. I would not return to this place.
Also staff were sparse, they rate themselves a 4/5 while I would say 3/5

Really enjoyed our stay at the Villa San Paolo. It is a short drive (10 mins) from San Gimignano and has great views over the town.

The staff are friendly and helpful and there is a very nice atmosphere in the hotel without it being too formal. The hotel is tastefully decorated and the spa was great. Dinner was lovely too.

It would be a nice touch if they would put on a shuttle bus to run guests into San Gimignano, but I can't think of much else they could do to improve.

“great spa, shame about the food!”

I booked a stay here for a week over Easter with my husband and 12-year old son. My son was miserable because of the awful food in the restaurant and snack bar, and not being allowed access to the swimming pools or spa.

My husband hated the food and wanted to leave after the first day. I understood their unhappiness but just loved the spa, which is one of the best I have seen. The massage and beauty treatments were excellent.

Would recommend for a lazy weekend for an older couple, but not for a family holiday in Tuscany.

“A strange two days”

The purpose of the stay was to wind down and explore San Gimignano. Did both. However the hotel wasen't quite ready for us. The pool wasn't opened for the season, though it was meant to be. The pool restaurant opened the day we left, and was ok, nothing more or less. The staff gave the impression of not being ready for the season either. The snack bar hardly provided more than a Mars bar. Why then rate the hotel as above average? Because of a large pleasant room with a view over a well manicured garden (so nice, but laidback it could have been private), over rolling hills with the towers of San G in the background. Breathtaking! And you could enjoy the same view from almost anywhere on the property. It made lying in comfortable sun beds by the pool, licking the sun, something quite special, even though there was no service within sight. Never got time to visit the spa (rather sad when your'e in a spa hotel), but the ghosts (spa users in white robes) were everywhere and seemed very happy with the fasccility.
