We loved San Gimgnano at the end of the day when the day trippers had left. The countryside around San Gimgnano was spectaculor - I can see why Tuscany is loved by so many. The accomodations however, were disappointing. When we arrived, we had to request that the shower stall be cleaned as there was a lot of hair in the shower. The breakfasts were medicore at best. We were interested in having a dinner there, however, we noticed that the cooks were smoking in the kitchen and smoking while they were preparing food. We went to a great Trattorio in San Gimgnano, Trattoria Chirbiri - excellent food and the most reasonable prices that we encountered in Italy - would highly recommend!

We have just returned from a trip around Italy. Our stay at Il Vecchio Maneggio was our favourite part of the holiday.:we liked it so much that we stayed an extra night.

The farmhouse itself is traditional, clean and well presented, as was the room we stayed in.
Tiziana, the 'hostess' and her family are very welcomming.

A traditional, home-cooked dinner is served each evening- the meal incorporates organic produce of the farm:-, honey, saffron, olive oil and wine ( which flows freely with the meal) We really enjoyed the dinner and felt that 27 Euro was good value for the quality and quantity of the food.

The Tuscan Countryside surrounds the farm house with the town of San Ggimignano being visible on the horrizon- we had a car but I think it would be possible to walk even if quite time consuming.

We would reccomend Il Vecchio Maneggio to our friends and would hope to stay there again ourselves!

Il Vecchio Maneggio was one of our fondest memories on our trip to Europe. I am surprised that there aren't more reviews of this wonderful agriturismo in the rolling hills near San Gimignano. The rooms were a decent size, clean and had modern amenities in the bathroom- a great value. The views from the bedrooms are quite beautiful. However, the best part was getting to experience the warm hospitality of Tiziana and her family. For 25 Euro, we enjoyed a typical Italian Sunday dinner sitting around the table with them- organic food mostly grown on the farm, and lots of it! (It was probably the biggest meal we had on our entire trip, if not the biggest one we've ever eaten!) We didn't take advantage of the pool or horseback riding as we went in March and there was continuous rain, but I'm sure we will when we return!

A real "agriturismo" where you get to sit down at dinner with the people who make the wine you're drinking. It's hard to find one of these around these dyas.

Their website doesn't do the place justice - it's not out-of-this-world stunning, but it's a lot more charming, rennovated, and beautiful than it seems on their site, and there's a wonderful view of San Gimignano (which is not showcased or even mentioned on their website).

Rooms were rennovated and comfortable (except that it was quite cold and they don't turn the heating on until winter really hits).

The food was excellent and plentiful (too plentiful), and the owner, Tiziana, is so full of spirit!

I was there in October and it was lovely - but I imagine spring/summer must be amazing (there's an outdoor pool & a beautiful patio for dinners).

Do yourself a favour, and go experience Tuscany on this farm. The farmhouse is charming and the views of the vineyards and San Gimignano breathtaking. The owners are warm, loud and very Italian! Rooms are spotless, new and comfortable, with just enough of a rustic touch to remind you where you are. If you have had enough of sightseeing you can relax by the pool or go horse riding though the vineyards. The absolute best was the evening meal with the owners and guests seated around the dining table. After so many dinners with “just the two of us” it was a nice change to have people from all over the world to talk to. We loved both nights, with grappa and vin santo in hand, chatting away to the early hours. The traditional Italian meal (€25/person) with all you could eat and drink (the wine just kept coming) was an absolute bargain! What could be better than staying on a beautiful organic farm and feasting on its produce every night? I didn’t want to leave!
