We have just returned from a week in beautiful Siena and the graceful Palazzo Ravizza! I really would like to thank TripAdvisor, as it was through here that I discovered this little jem (having spent hours and hours surfing in the Internet to find a decent place for our stay in Siena this summer)!
The Palazzo is exactly as described by the other reviewers here! At the time of booking we asked for the loft room #50, because we fell in love with it from the photographs on TripAdvisor's side. It was fantastic! Elegant, clean and tidy room, a beautiful back garden where every morning we used to enjoy our breakfast and a breathtaking view of the Tuscan countryside from our window!
We enjoyed thoroughly the Palio races, the celabrations of the winning contrada, the wine tasting tours, a day in Florence and a cooking class we had arranged in advance with a tour company in Siena. All in all, we will definitely return to the Palazzo Ravizza and the magical Siena, sometime in the future!

“Loved it”

Palazzo Ravizza

20 Aug 2008

We stayed here for 2 nights in July for our honeymoon. We stayed in the Junior Suite (room 4). The room has a balcony, only one of a few in the hotel we think. It was worth spending the extra money for it as the views from it over the Tuscan countryside were amazing. You just couldn’t beat it for sipping wine whilst watching the sun set.

We believe that previously the bathroom was a bit worse for wear but luckily for us it had been refurbished just prior to our visit. The new bathroom certainly has the wow factor being very swish and modern. No shabby shower curtain, just clean glass door for the fantastic walk-in shower. We have posted a picture of the new bathroom on this site.

We were pleasantly surprised with the breakfasts. From previous comments on Tripadvisor we hadn’t expected much, but found a buffet-style, eat-as-much-as-you-like breakfast with a choice of cornflakes, muesli, yoghurts, rolls, croissants, jams, honey and fresh fruit plus fruit juice and hot drinks. It was more than ample and would keep us going till 1 or 2 o’clock. There was also an a la carte menu for which you paid extra. My own view (not hubbie’s) was that for what the hotel was charging and for the class of hotel, the breakfasts could have more. We later stayed in a hotel in Pisa which charged Є5 for breakfast for which you got all the above plus cheese, a selection of cold meats and cake.

But that was the only negative thing we have to say about the hotel. Its location is ideal: a stone’s throw from the old town (5 minutes to cathedral and 10 to Il Campo) and it was very easy to get out of the city onto the main roads to the rest of the country.

The hotel’s communal areas were beautiful. There are not many hotels with a Steinway grand piano which guests are allowed to play. The staff were friendly and helpful, especially when it came to giving directions.

We were certainly very happy with our stay and would gladly recommend the hotel.

I arrived at my room, opened the big wooden shutters and was awestruck by the beautiful Tuscan view. The view of the garden and surrounding countryside was everything I had imagined - straight out of a movie. The sunsets were particularly amazing. The room was fine - comfy bed with a fluffy duvet and clean bathroom - but the view kept me smiling the entire time I was there. The restaurant was closed while I was visiting but the staff provided quality recommendations for others. I thought the breakfast left something to be desired - rolls and coffee - but that may have been a function of the restaurant being closed. The hotel is at the edge of town - but the town is so small, the 10 minute walk to the center is worth the unobstructed view of the countryside.

“Disappointing compared to last two years”

Palazzo Ravizza

This was our third year staying at the Palazzo Ravizzo when in Siena. We had loved the hotel before but this time it was very disappointing. We stayed in room no 19 which was tiny [had a garden view] There were also a few loose tiles on the floor near to the bed . We debated whether or not to complain and decided to just get on with our holiday. On reflection, we should have asked for another room.
We asked about dinner that evening , as we had eaten there before and it was very good. However , we were told that due to a member of staff taking ill, the restaurant would be closed. The restaurant was not open the following evening either. For a hotel which is fairly expensive, this is very poor service.
On the previous occasions, there was a good choice at breakfast with tea or coffee being served to you freshly. However this year the choice was very basic [which is fine if you are paying basic prices]and the tea and coffee was from a self service vending machine. We got the impression that the hotel was trying to cut costs but still ask for 200 euros per night for the room. We will not be back.

We stayed here and thought that it was our nicest hotel in all of Italy. We had a view of the garden on the Fifth Floor. Our view was spectacular of the Tuscan countryside, and the room was quite large for being a "small" room. The hotel was also conveniently located, not too far from the main square. The "Nonna" restaurant down the street was excellent (that is not the full name of the restaurant, but it had Nonna in the name). There also was a supermarket about a block and a half away where we stocked up on snacks. We would definitely stay here again.
