What a horrible hotel! I came over from the south of france and the rented house in st tropez (ok I am used to travelling well, so I know whereof I speak when I talk about this place!) and checked in hoping to have a week of peace and serenity as the website promised- when I checked in there was very loud bar music and a rather tacky nouveau riche crowd at the bar, many young Russian girls decked out in designer head to toe, etc..but ok, the hotel can't help that- what they can help is the very ugly and incongruent interior decor, which tries and fails to approximate some kind of south african safari in switzerland (which is just a dead wrong concept to begin with)- lamps shaped like African animal cracker cookies , everywhere deep mood lighting which somewhat hides the fact that the designer is color blind- a fact which is struck home when you enter the much lauded "spa"- I parenthesize because this was one of the least relaxing spaces I have ever been in- attempting safari- vegas- hollywood chic with horrible white leather chairs and purple and orane accented edging and carpets, and a GIANT tacky big pseudo Lichtenstein pop art graphic thing above the reception desk in primary colors which had absolutely no relationship either to hotel decor, spa decor, or anything at all in any genuine realm of taste,- it was SO ugly , and hurt my eyes when I looked up at it.., and loud "loungy" music, and mirrors in all the hallways where you least expect them, trying to be cute but just ending up making the poor weary spa traveller feel as if they have entered a carnival house of NOT fun.
The spa treatments were so-so, good enough but not terrifically effectual- I went in for back massage and facials and the massages I had were sort of half hearted, typical of a hotel where the practioners don't expect to see the clients again, and who are used to the lowered expectations of tired travellers.
The bedrooms were ok, big disapointment was my "lake view" room looked on a tiny sliver of lake above the great hedge, and the hedge, for all it's size, wasn't nearly enough of a sound barrier for the constant traffic noise from the highway along the lake. Why such a high end hotel wouldn't attempt to solve this most obvious issue with a sound barrier wall is beyond my ken.
The lighting in the rooms was once again that dark pretentious ugly modish fancy flourescent lighting that makes one look ugly when you look in the mirror, which probably explains why there weren't any mirrors in the room, not even one full lenth one for us women to dress in. safari thing works a little better in the rooms than in larger space of hotel, but still, pretty cold and charmless .
On to the people working at the hotel- WHen I checked in I had an issue with my credit card as the issuing bank's entire computer system had shut down, and I explained this to reception, and gave them the number of the bank so they could confirm and also confirm that I could pay for my stay , bank balance etc..but I guess they did not bother, and when I left a few days early the man at reception, Mark, made a snide comment about was my hotel in rome a less nice hotel?
It was, for the record, another Leading Hotel of the World I was headed to, and where I am now, and beyond that, I left early because I was tired of wasting money at that horrible place! don't go!!!!stay at the four seasons in geneva, or at the D'angleterre, which I love and which is so charming and romantic.
I am happy to spend five star fares for charm and true luxury, and I do spend approximately six weeks a year in five star joints all over the world , and happily pay my bill end the end of a good expereince, but I left this place feeling like I had been ripped off I want my money back! don't go!
