Many other reviews say the same thing, so I will be brief: great location steps from the funicular; in the middle of everything, but rooms are quiet; very comfortable room with excellent A/C; spotless housekeeping; bountiful breakfast buffet with some hot items, mostly excellent cold items, pastries and breads, fruit and juices, etc. Complimentary coffee/tea in the lobby at all hours, often with pastry or dessert to snack on. This hotel tries very hard to please.
Some details to consider, but should not deter you (I'd stay here again in a minute:) judging from the floor plan and the rate structure, the room sizes and features can vary a lot. Many rooms have shower only, and some are very spacious, some not. Room #212 was rather small with two twin beds and shower, but still very comfortable and the space was well-designed and used -- good closet space and drawers, good reading light in bed, in-room safe, good selection of TV channels on the flat screen, nice toiletries, etc. However, if you are picky about some of these details, best to ask. We thought the price was reasonable for the season and Lugano.
We often find duvet coverlets too warm, as these were without really cranking up the AC. We asked to switch to regular sheets and blankets, which they willingly did.
A slip, perhaps because it was rather busy at check-in (but efficient:) the staff didn't mention the fact that the soft drinks in the mini-fridge were complimentary, nor anything about free internet access anywhere but in the lobby. Still: we were delighted to have a fridge that had room to fill with some of our own items, and we always appreciate a hotel that allows a shared computer for free internet access.
You have to admire the management: they helped to host the musicians of a concert that would play on a Sunday night in the adjacent piazza, i.e. the musicians waited and prepared in the hotel lobby before showtime. However, since the weather looked iffy, an arrangement was made that if the weather turned foul, the concert could be moved to a meeting room in the hotel. The weather did, in fact, turn foul; the audience tromped into a lovely ballroom/meeting room; and the concert continued. You have to admire such a sense of the civic good.
Again, if I find myself in Lugano again, I'd be delighted to stay here, perhaps upgrading to a somewhat larger room.
