The hotel was just ok. Nothing overly impressive when you walk in. The rooms are small. The beds are small, lumpy, low to the floor -- uncomfortable! There is very little light in the rooms. Our converters would not work in the bathrooms so we had to unplug one of only three lamps we had in order to plug up our curling irons, chargers, etc. Bring your own shampoo, conditioner and soap, for all they offer is shampoo/bodywash in one. Smoking is allowed everywhere. Our clothes reaked of smoke from the room next door. The walls are paper thin. So thin that we could hear the people next door everytime they used the bathroom. The beds and floors sqeaked. There was no A/C so we had to sleep with the doors open, which was fine because the nights were cool. But, since we were on the second floor, the noise from the streets was very loud. On a positive note, we were lake side with a wonderful view and a private terrace, which was nice. Coffee/Espresso machine available at all hours of the day for free. Train station is across the street on the back side of the hotel which is convenient. Hotel is old which some would call charming. We would not go back and I'm not sure we would even recommend it to anyone. For a 4 star hotel, we were just not impressed.

I had a room facing the train station. I don't remember noise being an issue but I enjoyed the convenience of not having to lug my bags far to a hotel. It's location is central to the post office and the small market. Recommended for the weary traveler!

Beware of the buffet breakfast!! I remember it being ridiculously expensive and they didn't mention anywhere that it was not included. All hotels that I had stayed at during my Switzerland trip had free breakfast buffets so we stupidly attended this one and had 15 euro breakfast pastries.

The hotel was a bit shabby, the view from the restaurant terrace was great..The room was appointed nicely with a nice bathroom. I enjoyed
the bathtub immensely.

If you're looking for something spectacular, I would look elsewhere. If this is within your budget and you want something nice-ish, I would recommend it.

The Suisse Majestic is one of the many hotels in Montreux that harks back to the glory days before the firrst world war. Today it is a bit frayed around the edges, and relies heavily on tour groups and visitors from the middle east. It is really two hotels: the one with rooms facing the lake, which cost more; the other with rooms facing the station to the rear. The rear rooms are noisy if you wish to sleep with the windows open. If not, the dlouble glazing is very effective and you wont hear a sound from outide the building (though rooms on the sixth floor do not have air conditioning and you will have to have the windows open in warm weather). Noise from inside is another matter. Some of the rooms are clearly sub divisions of what were larger, grander suites and have walls consisting of little more than board. If you have noisy neighbours you will be kept awake through the night. This seems to happen with some frequency. A lot of middle east guests arrive at around 1230 at night (for some reason) and then spend the next few hours partying, talking, bathing the children etc etc. The disruption to guests nearby is considerable.

The hotel has a fine terrace overlooking the lake, where it is a joy to take a drink before dinner. The food is variable. The hotel caters for tour groups and seems to struggle with offering fine food to guests, and budget fodder to the groups. The breakfasts are very ordinary. The food offered to tour groups is pretty ordinary to say the least.

The hotel is probably a reflection of Montreux, which has also seen better days. It is now a rather flat, dull place which offers little other than a view over Lake Geneva. Decent restaurants are few and far between, and virtually the only voices you hear will be British or middle eastern. Indeed, a walk along the prom is rather like a stroll down Peterborough high street. The only thing lacking is a large mosque.

Unless you need to be near the railway station, you should avoid this hotel and find somewhere with a little more style and atmoshphere.
