This was a great place to eat and I can’t recommend it enough. Do not be put off that the food is cooked by and the restaurant is staffed by students because the standard of both is superb.
Once seated we were given an amuse bouche which contained veal. Neither I nor my partner will eat veal, so we asked for it to be removed, which was done immediately and the kitchen whipped up a beef and horseradish sauce replacement, which was very tasty.
Marta, our extremely helpful waitress then brought us a selection of bread and butter. This was followed by our starters; I had chosen a melon dish, which contained melon in lots of different formats, e.g. melon drink, melon balls, with different types of melon. It was really refreshing. My partner had chosen the leek and potato soup with bacon, which you could have hot or cold, he chose the hot version and he loved it.
We had both ordered the sea bass to follow at around 46 Swiss francs, but we were informed that the sea bass had sold out but they could offer us the sole instead, for the same price as the sea bass. (The sole was around 65 Swiss francs), which we accepted.
The sole was filleted by the table and was accompanied by spinach and potatoes with a most delicious herb/wine sauce. Totally gorgeous. On finishing 1 side of the fish, they whisked away our plates and gave us fresh plates with more spinach and potatoes and the remainder of the sole. Never experienced two plates for my main course before, very unique. The food was simply divine.
We declined dessert but because it was my partner’s birthday (the hotel had informed them when they made the reservation for us), they appeared with a fabulous birthday cake for him. As we were already full, they kindly boxed up the cake for him, so we could take it back to the hotel.
The staff were phenomenally good, Marta looked after us brilliantly and fulfilled our every need and Marcel, the maitre’d was so professional and ran the place like clockwork. He was brilliant at the front of house and ensured everyone got a first class service. The staff were very impressive.
On our return to Zurich, this is going to be the first place we dine at; I only wish we had discovered this establishment on our first night. I can’t praise or recommend this restaurant highly enough. A totally divine dining experience.
