You know that you are in a hotel where the employees care and have a can do attitude. That in itself can make a big difference.
Although everybody said that one week in Amsterdam is too much; we felt otherwise, we could have stayed longer. Maybe the hotel contributed to how we felt. You know you are in good hands when Ralph at the reception desk looks at you and understands what type of room you would enjoy most and he assigns you that room, you also know that when Edwin escorts you to your room with your luggage and takes the time to explain every detail making you feel as you are the only guest in the hotel, you are in a place where they will look after you.
The Concierge personnel is extremely attentive. Talk to Ron or Robert and you feel as they can make magic for almost anything you want/need. They will tell you where to go, make reservations and take care of every single detail flawlessly! One night they said, why don’t you stay for dinner with us, dine in the “apotheke” and let us pamper you; well they sure had the right idea, it is a dinner paired with organic wines, let Jeroen take care of you in that intimate setting and aside from having a great meal, he will make sure you feel like Royalty. Make sure you also take the Saturday morning tour with Robin, the former Chief Concierge for 40 years, well worth it.
The room was comfortable, Ralph was right, he recommended we stay in a room overlooking the garden, a quiet room, we think was better that the ones facing the canal if you want a quiet stay. Very clean room, a bit squeaky upstairs but is OK, water pressure in the shower was low but the handheld was a good substitute. If you need complimentary tea or an espresso machine ask they will bring it to you.
Hopefully, if you chose to stay here, the same people we mention will take care of you and if they do, tell them they really make a difference as they did for us.
If our travels bring us back to Amsterdam we will definitely stay in the Pulitzer which is a home away from home.
For a quiet room ask for the garden view.
