This is a fascinating place to visit. Stop here first to get oriented on the fabulous development of cultures, governments, religions, and history that makes up present day Amsterdam. There are weird and interesting objects, artwork, items dredged up from the canals and a ton of other interesting items, videos and displays. I really can't say enough how much I adored this fascinating site! Next to the Anne Frank Huis this is definitely number two for people who are interested in more than paintings. I really left there with a better understanding of this dynamic city.

This is an incredibly interesting museum that tells the story of Amsterdam's history and its people. It is HUGE, so don't go there if you're in a hurry. The digital exhibit on the growth is very cool and so is the way art is interspersed with the other elements. I highly recommend going.

I'd agree with the other reviewers - this is an excellent museum and an absolute 'must see' in Amsterdam.

I particularly like the upstairs section, which focusses on social history and the real-life experience of Amsterdam residents over the past 60 years or so. There are lots of films and sound recordings, all translated into English, together with a heap of artifacts and room sets as well.

I would very much recommend this museum to give you a real flavour of Amsterdam's history and people.

I would recommend this museum to anyone visiting the city. It appears very unassuming from the street and when you first go in you might think there doesn't appear to be much there apart from paintings. However, there are so many rooms to explore and even though we were very methodical I'm sure we missed some!

It's very interesting with some interactive exhibits and lots to keep young and old visitors interested.

Definitly well worth a visit.
