First, take a look at the hotel's website. It is beautifully composed and will give you a good insight into your stay at the Nadia. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel extremely welcome and yes, the room was small, but adequate for two of us. In fact, it was cosy, intimate and in character with the rest of the building, which is historic and should never be modernised.
I do have problems with my knees and was apprehensive about the stairs, but there is a hand rail on each wall and I managed them better than I had hoped. Just be careful as the steps are narrow. There is a small landing halfway up the staircase, which is good for an oxygen intake!
The breakfast room is one of the prettiest I have ever seen. Sadly, the breakfast itself comprised only of bread, cake, croissants and various jams. I feel some cold meat and eggs would have been a nice addition.
The room itself was decorated in dark wood paneling, with lots of shelves and a small, but very functional bathroom. It was very warm however, so we kept the window open at all times. Please be aware that trams run constantly and love to ring their bells and the church opposite chimes every 15 minutes.
The beds were very, very narrow and extremely uncomfortable. We spent each night clinging onto the mattress for fear of falling onto the floor.
Regarding cleanliness, the hotel was spotless and we were asked each day if we would like housekeeping to tidy our room.
Despite the poor beds and lack of a decent breakfast, this is a lovely hotel, with friendly staff, in a fantastic location. Amsterdam is a beautiful, friendly, relaxed and fun place to be and I would challenge anyone to visit the city and not have a good time.
For something a little different, visit De Efteling which is an amazing fairytale themed park. It is an hour train ride from Central Station, then approximately 50 minutes by bus. We went to visit the Winter Wonderland that they do for Christmas, and it was absolutely perfect. Fake snow, real bonfires, warme chocolade melk and hot waffles. Fantastic!
