Remember this is a budget hotel and Amsterdam is an expensive city - you get what you pay for. Room was very basic, though we did request a first floor room (and got it). Could hear the people above 'moving furniture'!
We were a bit disappointed initially to find the bed was really saggy with springs that made sleeping uncomfortable. To her credit, the Irish owner Clodagh was very grateful to us for bringing this to her attention and promised to replace it as soon as possible, which she did. She left a beautiful vase of tulips in the room to say sorry. Making up the room was forgotten on several occasions. Take your own shower gel as this is not provided (would it cost much to include this?).
Breakfast was plentiful in buffet style - salami, boiled eggs, cheese, ham, breads, fruit juice, tea, coffee, fresh fruit, in a pleasant airy room. Staff were wonderfully courteous and helpful. We both felt safe in the hotel and the district in which it was situated.
Tram 1 to town and central station stops right outside station - very handy. Best buy is a 24 hr ticket 7.50 Euro (can also get a 48 hr version). Supermarket under hotel very useful as others have pointed out.
Would recommend it if a budget hotel is what you are looking for.
