Look, this place certainly aint the Ritz and if you have the budget, you might want to think about going elsewhere. But really, what do you need in Amsterdam other than a bed and clean toilet and shower? The room I stayed in was the small budget room, which at 50 euros a night during school hols, you can't complain too much about. yes it was small but it had two bunk beds, so in fact you could get the price down to 25 euros each if there were two of you - bargain! clean toilet and shower although you had to go up another floor to get to the shower and damn the steps are steep!! be careful!! reception staff are really friendly and helpful, and its in a nice location close to all the museums and a short tram ride to Dam square (no. 4 tram) and the red light district. I walked most places as the hotel is not too far from anything.

Firstly the hotel is not where it is stated on google maps and is a bit further out from the centre than expected.

The room was so small that I actually had a real feeling of claustraphobia one of the nights. My request for a canal view room was also ignored and our window looked out over a derelict garden.

The tea coffee facitlies were also below par as there was no milk and both cups had coffee stuck on the inside of them which actually took 5 mins to clean.

I have stayed all over the world and would regards this as a "bad hostel" rather than a hotel. The hotel is extremly overpriced at 375 euro for 3 night and The hotel manager was also unhelpful when I explained my dissappointment at the room etc and he offered no explanation or help.

I wouldnt recommend this "hostel" to my worse enemy. I feel uterly ripped off.

After reading some, well, interesting reviews we decided to take our chances and stay in the Townhouse Hotel. What we found was a pleasant and relaxed (well this is Amsterdam) enviroment.Granted, if you were used to the highest of standards of hotels and are so far stuck up your own arse, well then....steer clear! For me and my girlfriend, however, we found it just what you need from a hotel;bed, shower, toilet, warmth. The Townhouse Hotel is ideally situated in near all the main attractions (i.e Heineken Brewery, Dam Square and all the major musuems). So needless to say, its nice and the stairs are steep...real steep actually!!!I'd recommend it to people who are simply there for the sights, sounds and smells that makes up Amsterdam!

“cheap & cheerful!”

We stayed at the Townhouse 6-11 May and arrived at the front door in the pouring rain only to find that you had to check in at their sister hotel 3 bridges up the main street, which was a pain.
We were given room 10 (the 'Anne Frank' room!) and one of us had to sit down on the bed so the other could walk past it was soooo small!!! we stayed the night and then without any fuss was moved to a much bigger room 6.
The bedding was immaculate, towels clean & fluffy and cleaned every day by the wonderful, helpful Rueben.
The hotel is located in a very trendy, laid back area (think Notting Hill Gate) and it was easy to get around.
Only gripe we had was there was nowhere to hang up any clothes....not even a nail in the wall!!!!
Aside from that, it was cheap, clean & cheerful.
BiG TIP: climb up the stairs on your hands and kness!!!!!

Four girls stayed here for a long wkend in July06. The steps were very steep, but we found the comical side and were careful (even with a skin full) so it was ok really. We got to our room (on 2nd floor, i think) and had to laugh really as it was the size of prob a double room but with four beds crammed in sidebyside! We were there to sleep after a day of sightseeing at the end of the day, and we did that more than adequately. The beds were comfy, linen clean and the room was clean too. We had a small ensuite shower - which was tiny, but again more than adequate with hot water enough for 4, which is prob more than i can say for some places! Toilet was communal, but was thankfully right outside our room! All in all this was a nice quiet, central place to stay and great value! only slight issue was the hotel you have to check in at, is a much LONGER (but picturesque i guess) walk that you'd expect!!! and as as we arived a little later than expected (flight delayed - but we warned them) they had taken the entire bill off my credit card before we even got there!
