“We loved the Barangay”

We loved the Barangay. The owners were great to deal with. They helped us enormously with navigating the city - even assisted us with getting some concert tickets in a neighboring city as well. We booked the two rooms on the top floor of their property. They were very well suited for our family - a bathroom in the hallway is in between the two rooms. Be prepared for the usual narrow european stairways though. I don't think those stairwells have ever dealt with as much luggage as we brought...

We'll stay there again in a hearbeat when we return to this beautiful city.

Very well located, nice, clean B & B and hosts very friendly. From airport to Centre Station only take 15 mins, when you arrived the station take another 10-15 mins walk to the B & B.

Our room with a small patio, good size bedroom and has private bathroom, like most of Europe B & B not ensuite but the bathroom only about 10 steps away.

Breakfast is the best part, they serve different foods each morning, not cold cut or cheese boring stuffs, we had fresh fruit salad with cream, scamble eggs, toast etc..... between 3 days. If you love cat would like stay in here because the hosts have 2 cats, both very friendly, one of them every monring come to join us breakfast, seat next to you, if you don't like cats then it is a very different story, I enjoy very much.

If we come back to Amsterdam would like to stay there again when our budget allows us to do, not cheap but seems worth it.

Barangay Bed and Breakfast

28 May 2008

We stayed at the tropical Barangay in April 08. Wim, God and Ron were brilliant hosts in a lovely, peaceful hideaway that was located a stone's throw from everything. The location was perfect, our hosts were friendly, good fun and informative yet not intrusive, our room was amazing and the breakfasts in bed were a treat we looked forward to with anticipation each morning. Yes, we would not hesitate to stay there again. Thanks guys for everything, see you again . . love c and d xx

“nice Dutch home”

Barangay Bed and Breakfast

22 May 2008

We chose this place based on it's close proximity to the train station, reasonable price and good advance communication with the owner.

It didn't disappoint. Because of a cat allergy, we chose one of the two upstairs rooms with a shared bath. We were told that the cats don't go upstairs. Since we shared the bath with only one other party there wasn't a problem with access to the bathroom which was large, modern, and clean. For these two rooms, there is a self service breakfast kitchen. There is an additional toilet one floor down, near the kitchen. The bathroom was cleaned daily

The room was up three steep flights of stairs (a drawback for those who can't climb stairs or have a fear of hights). It was very comfortable, spacious, interestingly furnished, with windows looking out to the street. I did notice that no one came into the room to tidy up at any point during our two night stay. If we wanted the bed made, we had to make it ourselves. Breakfast is offered in a pleasant kitchen on the second floor. All the ingredients for an ample repast are set up at midnight, the night before, and we could help ourselves to juice, cereals, bread, pastries, eggs, fruit, cheese, meat and coffee (the kitchen is fully equipped with a stove, microwave, frige, toaster, espresso machine). We could get up and eat whenever we wanted. It was nice to have this freedom.

Wimo, one of the hosts, is a tour guide and is helpful with advice on what to do in the city. Both Wimo and Goddard are charming, welcoming, and helpful. I can wholeheartedly recommend this place for those who like something a little unconventional.

“Best B&B I've ever stayed at”

Barangay is THE B&B to stay if you want to go on holiday in Amsteram!
I don't think there is a better location for a place to stay than Barangay. Within 5 Minutes you are in the center of Amsterdam. The famous coffeeshops like Barneys, The Greenhouse & Pink Floyd are in the parallel street (which was very handy for us, because it was f*** freezing in February) and you find even more just around the corner. We didn't spend very much time at the hotel as we didn't realize you are not allowed to smoke in the upper rooms, but you don't go on holiday to stay inside anyway.
Even though you are in the middle of the city, it is extremely quiet in the B&B itself. We had problems to sleep the first night because we couldn't hear a sound..... it was sooo nice to get some time to relax without getting disturbed by neighbours or other guests.
We were a little bit disappointed to not see more of the hosts, but as said before, we were not very often there either and I think they had private guests at the same time we were there.
I would not recommend the upper rooms to people with problems with stairs... there are more as expected! I found myself out of breath once I arrived at the top.
The rooms were cleaned every other day and new towls put on the beds (in funny shapes such as swans).
I don't know what else to say, it was a pleasent stay and we managed to feel sort of home quite fast.

The Barangay B&B actually made as feel so welcome and home, that we have now decided to move to Amsterdam! ;-)
In only 5 weeks we will be living there.... otherwise I would definately book a room at this B&B again!

P.S.: Only because you can see pancakes on the photos of their website, does not mean you will get pancakes for breakfast every day.... I guess that is a service for the lower, more expensive rooms. My boyfriend was a little bit sad about that, but there are plenty of pancake-houses nearby (we've been to all of them). And they have really nice Muffins for the upper rooms (I stole the whole basket the day we went home - sorry Barangay-boys, but they were just sooooo goooood!)
