We spent three nights at Hanna Penso in the Garden Room. The room was spotlessly clean. We enjoyed the murphy bed - during the day we had so much space in the room.

The mini-kitchen was a wonderul asset to have. The breakfast rolls were excellent and we used them for our dinners, too. We simply bought meat at a shop within walking distance. Since the fridge was stocked with cheese, we made great sandwiches to keep expenses down.

The location was fabulous. The subway and tram lines are just a few minutes walk. We were able to get anywhere we wanted to go in the city within 10 minutes.

Beatrijs was a wonderful hostess. She explained how everything worked. A few hours after our arrival, as we were walking about the streets of Amsterdam, one of the many bicyclists called out, "Hello," and waved - it was Beatrijs. So nice of her to recognize us after meeting us for just a few minutes. She even arranged for a taxi on our day of departure. The taxi arrived exactly at the time requested and charged a lower rate because Beatrijs booked it. Talk about great service!

We plan to visit Amsterdam again and will, without doubt, stay at Hanna Penso.

We stayed for a 4 night in the garden room. The room was spacious and lovely, nice beds, a kitchenet with a senseo coffeemaker , a waterboiler, a small owen and a refrigiator.
The bath and the toilet were two seperate rooms.
The room was spotless clean.
From the room there is a view of the small but extremely lovely garden, and there is a private terrase.
For breakfast youll get rolls and croissants, fresh from the baker every day. In the refrigiator there is orangejuice, eggs, mini baby bells (a cheese), marmelade, peanutbuttercreame, honny, cornflakes, coffecream and milk. There is also senseo coffe and thebags. The room was quiet and private.
So fare so good (and the overall experiance was good)
The coffee from the coffemaker dont taste that good, its a lot of hassel for nothing, and we missed a selection of f.eks cheese, witch the dutch are so famous for.
And we thought that the cleaning was a bit to much, when our stuff was rearranged (socks on a chair was moved, magazines on a tabel was rearranged).
These are minor detailes, but newertheless!
If yoy choose the canal room, be aware that , the Herimitage (a part of the Herimitage in St.Petersburg, Russia), across the canal is beeing renovated. There may be some noise.
The B&B is in walking distance to f.eks Rembrandt plein, the hortus (botanical garden), Rembrandts House and so on.
But we recomed that you buy a "IAmsterdam Card", at the central station. We found this to be well worth the price (53 euros for 72 hours). free entry to all the major sights, two canal cruise and free public transport.
Owerall we enjoyed our stay enormously and would stay at the B&B again, in the same room. By the way, look for the parakites, exotic birds thats escaped from captivity and are now living free in Amsterdam. The were flying around beatrice and her neighbours gardens.

My wife and I stayed at the Hanna Penso B&B before and after a cruise that started and ended in Amsterdam. We stayed in the garden house room one time and the garden room the other. In both cases, the rooms were spotlessly clean. Each room has a compact kitchen, chairs, a flat screen tv, and very comfortable beds. Just outside the rooms there is a patio to enjoy a morning coffee, or a drink before going out for dinner. The patios face a beautiful garden that is like an oasis of calm in the middle of the city. The makings for breakfast are supplied each morning, including delicious croisssants, bread, juice, eggs, buns, yoghurt, milk and coffee/tea. The owner is very courteous and helpful. The location is excellent, within easy walking distance of Amsterdam's main sights. It is on a canal, and very near the Waterlooplein metro subway station. The rooms were very quiet. We were very sad to leave, and will certainly stay here again.

We stayed in the Garden Room at Hanna Penso for 10 nights during August 07. The garden room is like a self contained studio apartment.

Good points:

Warm, friendly & welcoming people.
Delicious fresh bread & croissants hung on our door handle in a bag each morning.
Fridge & cupboards re-stocked with goodies on a daily basis.
Close to tram stop at Waterlooplein.
Clean, private, quiet.
Well stocked mini kitchen (plenty of pans, plates, utensils).
Plenty of cupboard space & clothes hangers.

Not so good points:

The bed in the garden house is very hard & we found it uncomfortable. Also, as there are cupboards above the bed, it is not possible to prop yourself up in bed to watch TV or to read. As there was no sofa to sit on, this was not ideal. There were several chairs in the garden house but these were not very comfortable. If we had been staying for a weekend, this may not have been an issue (we stayed for 10 nights). A sofabed may be a better option than the fold-away bed.
The coffee machine does not make good coffee ) :

There is one mirror in the garden house. It's on the bathroom wall. I'm 5 foot 2 & I couldn't reach to see in the mirror. I had to buy a mirror in Amsterdam (I have left it there for other smallish women to benefit from)!

Overall, a good place for a weekend / long weekend but not comfy enough fot a 10 night stay.
