Located a short two and a half blocks from the Inntel Zaandam, Porto Fino sounded like my answer for a pizza! And if not pizza, then lasagna, spaghetti, tortellini or scaloppina, right? I hope you can read the menu in the photograph.
I was very disappointed to the point where I threw away most of the pizza I ordered and walked down Rozengracht (the same street) to the NY Style Pizza joint, which was so much better.
At Porto Fino I ordered their signature "Porto Fino Pizza" - tomato, cheese, ham, mushrooms, paprika, artichoke and sausage. On 6 September 2011 it was 11,75 Euros. It looked great (see photo). It smelled great. Then I tried to eat it, and I discovered what many pizza lovers know: if the crust is horrible, the pizza is horrible. The crust on my pizza was so thin, I thought perhaps it was uncooked. It was soft. I could not hold a piece unless I folded it together, and then I saw it had been cooked. It was such a terrible crust, I would have been better off scraping the toppings onto a bagette!
My conclusion is that this is a very small place with a small staff who know nothing about Italian cooking, and while I give them credit for trying, they have failed.
