We've stayed in this hotel in December 2010 for 1 night to visit family in town.
The hotel is pefectly located for those travelling by train. Within 100m from the NS train station 'Zwolle' on the way leading to the city centre. You'll find the hotel on your righthand side.
Neighbour of this hotel is the more expensive and well-known Grand Hotel 'Wientjes' (Bilderberg Group).
Welcome at reception was very friendly and staff was interested in our intentions and informative about the hotel services, and gave directions to find restaurants in town (the hotel itself does not serve dinner in the evening hours). Since we're familiar in this city we didn't need the info, but at least staff is willing to assist.
The hotel itself is located in a year 1850 build old police office, which has been renovated to this hotel. The rooms though, are located in a newly build 'annex-building' behind.
Rooms are very spacious and really smart looking. The design and colour setting of the room feel like home, giving warmth and cosy feeling.
The temperature on our room was really warm though. Rooms temperature is regulated with a so called "top cooling" system, which is not airconditioning. Also, the room temperature is not controlled individually, so guest have no personal interference with this system. During our stay outside temperature was around -5°C, inside room was maybe 25°C. In daytime ok, but this temperature was also kept during the night. So our sleep was not really good, these temperatures are way to hot for a comfortable sleep. Windows cannot be opened either.
About the rooms...
+ large bed
+ comfortable chairs (3)
+ Bose soundsystem
+ LCD television
+ well stocked minibar (but overpriced)
+ a lot of available powerports in the wall to use by the guest
+ free Wi-Fi (on request also by DSL cable on the room)
- room temperature (too high), not able to control yourself
- pillow on the bed are really soft
- window cannot be opened
- Bose soundsystem: not connected to "cable receiver", but FM-receiving unit (bad signal)
This is also very spacious and clean. Modern design. Enough towels provided. Bathroom amenities include bathfoam/shower gel and shampoo. It seems the units were not all completely new but some previously used by other guest. Also no airconditioning in the bathroom, so after a shower it gets very humid inside.
Nice extra are the slippers and bathrobe.
The airsystem in the ceiling was never cleaned and really very dirty. A vacuum cleaner can do the trick, but probably the house keeping never looks after the ceiling. Easy detail to get fixed, but I noticed this with other guest reports also. Apparently no high priority here.
Nice variaty of bread available. Old cheese and mustard cheese, some meats, cumcumber and tomato, as well smoked salmon. Cereals are plenty and yogurt from a local distributor/farm, very good product. They have soft-boiled eggs, but not really soft. Scrambled eggs in 3 variaty (plain, mushrooms mixed, salmon mixed). Also fresh fruit available, as well croissants, chocolate bread, French toast.
Coffee is filled on the table by a waiter, who is in for a quick chat is seems. Table setting is good, nice designs here and cosy interior. The breakfast room have a good range of newspapers to use, not sure if they offer international press though.
Overall this hotel is probably among the best Zwolle has to offer and for a reasonabe price level also. Location is very interesting, close to trainstation and walking distance to the city centre with a good amount of restaurants, shops and nightlife.
Zwolle has direct train connection to other important cities like Groningen (1hr), Emmen (1hr), Amersfoort (45min), Utrecht (1hr) etc.
For your short stay in Zwolle I can recommend this hotel to you. I hope the hotel management will take notice of some items and take action, just to make their rooms in slightly better condition.
