I stayed here 22nd sep 2007.

The only thing good about this hotel is the location. It is only a five minute walk from Antwerp Centraal station and Antwerp Zoo.

The hotel itself is presented to an ok level - i say ok because you expect a lot more from a 3 star hotel. Our room was not cleaned properly and we had a massive air conditioning unit on the balcony!(YES ON THE BALCONY! the size of an american fridge!)
This makes the loudest noise ever! and you will not sleep!!!. I even asked if this gets turned off and was lied to grrr!.

Ok round two - the bedspread was filthy and covered in yellow stains, ill let you guess what this is, anyway i removed this and told reception then went out. On my return i was informed that " your room has been fixed" went to room and guess what? the same bedspread has been used to make my bed!!!.

Whilst on the subject of beds how bout a broken bed supported by squares of wood not even the width of the bed? yep backache.

You may find that your tour operator includes breakfast with your room- let me tell you that breakfast consists of bread and butter or jam anything else isnt covered and is in fact classed as extras.

Round 3 - Bathtime! not in that bath it was filthy , black dirt at the bottom ground in , i tried to be polite and just wash it away but no joy .

Got Kids?

How about a free porn channel that runs all day and night with no lock? see this hotel really goes out there way to impress.

It certainly did not impress me and if you have standards of hygeine i urge you to steer clear of this hotel.

The one across the street looked much better and certainly more hotel like , as this one was actually part of a shopping centre it seems.

I hope ive been of help please do steer clear and enjoy your antwerp holiday, you can see my reviews of Antwerp and places to go under my name.

Ps i took photos of the dirt to show my tour operator and ask for my refund i will upload them soon.

Gary.

“Not at All Bad!”

Empire Hotel

Having read the other reviews following booking we were somewhat worried we had booked a terrible hotel - we had no need to be! Admittedly we can agree that the furnishing may be "dated" circa mid 1980's, and that the street in which the hotel resides is slightly "tatty", but our non smoking room on the 5th floor was exceptionally clean and spacious and the staff were friendly and helpful. The location is good and the quality of breakfast we found superb. It's a good value for money choice.

“expected worse, still not really satisfied”

Empire Hotel

as my preferred hotel in Antwerp was fully booked I tried this hotel for 2 nights.
First I had to stay in a smoker rooms even though I requested a non-smoker one. The smell was aweful. They use some kind of spray to neutralize the smell of cigarettes. I don't know what's worse. Seconds in a non-smoker room was better.
Rooms are big, the beds too soft and the furniture old. Seems I some of the better rooms as the impression my collegea had was far worse than mine.
Bathrooms had been a weak point as in many hotels in Antwerp. But also here it seems I was lucky as well, as the cleanliness of my bathrooms had been acceptable, still not really good.
I always hope I get my preferred hotel, when I'm here. The Empire certainly is not my first choice.

“Was expecting better”

Empire Hotel

This was the second time that I have stayed in this part of Antwerp. Having paid more than last time and was expecting something better but was disappointed. I would rate the hotel as a 2 star not a 3. The room was a bit shabby and in need of some work. The carpets throughout the hotel were dirty and stained. I particularly disliked the right-hand lift, which had a strong fishy smell. I would advise anyone staying to take ear-plugs as the road outside can be noisy early in the morning (6:30 am). On more positive note, the buffet breakfast is excellent and the hotel is ideally located for Central station. If you’re planning to buy chocolates, I can recommend the Leonidas shop less the 5 mins from the hotel.
