Considering that the EU was in session, we had a very difficult time finding a reasonable hotel. The Hotel Bloom seemed well-reviewed enough, and for a listed 4 star hotel, it was quite reasonable at 80 Euros per night. It appears that the best rates are actually offered at the Hotel's own website (we found this out a bit too late after paying a little extra at Skoosh), so be sure to check there before booking elsewhere.

Although the Hotel was perfectly adequate, I wouldn't consider it a 4 star hotel. It lacked the amenities of 4 star accommodations, but if what you are looking for is a comfortable room with a decent breakfast and acceptable access to the city at a good price, the Bloom is an excellent option in a rather expensive city.

It was a 10-15 walk to the edges of the Old city, and the walk was through a not-so-pretty but safe enough area. I recommend getting a day pass on the metro. At a mere 4 euros, it's a bargain, and the Botanique metro station is very close.

We did have two major complaints about the hotel. There was still a good deal of construction going on in the hotel, and we had asked for a nice quiet room at check-in. Not only were we put in a room that faced the extremely noisy street out front; we were woken up in the morning by construction noise from the room DIRECTLY above us. Not very nice.

Second, the free internet offered by the hotel was HORRIBLE. We complained several times and were told that they would fix the problem straight away, but no improvement was ever made. We were only on the 3rd floor, as well. I can only imagine how much worse it got. Yes, you get what you paid for, but as this was an advertised amenity, we weren't impressed.

The breakfast really looked nice enough, and was replete with lots of hot and cold choices. We had, however, spent the previous days at a hotel with the most spectacular breakfasts, so I fear I'm not the best judge. I believe most people would be very pleased.

If you are looking for a comfortable, cheerful option at a decent price and don't care about internet access or taking the metro, the Bloom is a good bet.

“Really fresh and clean”

Hotel BLOOM!

19 Feb 2008

Stayed at the Hotel Bloom for 3 nights and have nothing but praise. The room rate was a real bargain and we were given a lovely room- bright airy, and although at the front of the hotel, not at all noisy.
Breakfast was very good with an excellent choice. We loved the added touch of a Sudoku at each place setting which certainly resulted in a peacful dining room.
Metro stop at Botanique really handy although a leisurely walk to the Grand Place only 15 mins away. Metro itself is frequent but condition of stations and surrounding areas leave a lot to be desired. We bought a 3 day travel card for 9.5 Euros which appears to be a new thing as the hotel reception staff had not heard of it.
The hotel Bloom may not be in the centre of the city but for a short break it is excellent value.

“Pleasant surprise”

Hotel BLOOM!

26 Jan 2008

I chose the hotel in rush, according to price level and expected a semi-habitable closet. Luckily, I was so very wrong. The room was spacious, stylish (no mural in my room, though) and very comfortable. And oh, the breakfast! Lovely!

“Great Local + very modern”

HotelBLOOM has a great beginning. It's located a few hundred meters from the Botanique subway stop and a short walk to the city center.

I appreciated having a grocery across the street, as well as a modern and sophisticated room. The amenities were also nice-- free bottles of water, ultra fast wireless internet, an email before arrival asking if we had questions, and key card entry into the elevators to name a few. It was also incredibly inexpensive for the quality of hotel.

Our only 'issues' per say, were that some parts of the hotel seemed to not be finished. We were on the 3rd floor and were awoken at 9am by some kind of strange drilling above.

The street outside also has a fair amount of traffic. That being said the drilling stopped and we were able to enjoy sleeping in. The blinds were also very efficient at keeping light out at any hour.

I would highly recommend this spacious and modern hotel.

“Happy New Year's eve in Brussels”

Hotel BLOOM!

The Hague, The Netherlands

Hotel Bloom is an excellent place to stay. It is recently refurbished and is now a boutique style, modern hotel. We had an excellent rate (70E) for a clean, large room with beautiful mural paintings. Beds were excellent and the pillows nice and soft.
I do not know if all rooms have been modernised yet. Make sure you ask when booking.

Location is good. You can walk to the Grand Place in 10 minutes. Or you can take the metro or tram which takes you anywhere you want.

Because our room-booking was without breakfast, we had the choice to pay 2x 22E each morning or go to the supermarket across the street. We (being Dutch) off course did the latter and bought Croissants for only E 0,65 each....
A good tip for anyone who did not book breakfast.

New year's eve in Brussels was great. Unfortunately the fireworks were cancelled because of a terrorthreat. But On the Grand Place we counted down and had a lot of fun with lots of people. And we then celebrated the new year in Cafe Toone, with some nice Pauwel's Kwak beers. What a way to start the year
