Considering that the EU was in session, we had a very difficult time finding a reasonable hotel. The Hotel Bloom seemed well-reviewed enough, and for a listed 4 star hotel, it was quite reasonable at 80 Euros per night. It appears that the best rates are actually offered at the Hotel's own website (we found this out a bit too late after paying a little extra at Skoosh), so be sure to check there before booking elsewhere.
Although the Hotel was perfectly adequate, I wouldn't consider it a 4 star hotel. It lacked the amenities of 4 star accommodations, but if what you are looking for is a comfortable room with a decent breakfast and acceptable access to the city at a good price, the Bloom is an excellent option in a rather expensive city.
It was a 10-15 walk to the edges of the Old city, and the walk was through a not-so-pretty but safe enough area. I recommend getting a day pass on the metro. At a mere 4 euros, it's a bargain, and the Botanique metro station is very close.
We did have two major complaints about the hotel. There was still a good deal of construction going on in the hotel, and we had asked for a nice quiet room at check-in. Not only were we put in a room that faced the extremely noisy street out front; we were woken up in the morning by construction noise from the room DIRECTLY above us. Not very nice.
Second, the free internet offered by the hotel was HORRIBLE. We complained several times and were told that they would fix the problem straight away, but no improvement was ever made. We were only on the 3rd floor, as well. I can only imagine how much worse it got. Yes, you get what you paid for, but as this was an advertised amenity, we weren't impressed.
The breakfast really looked nice enough, and was replete with lots of hot and cold choices. We had, however, spent the previous days at a hotel with the most spectacular breakfasts, so I fear I'm not the best judge. I believe most people would be very pleased.
If you are looking for a comfortable, cheerful option at a decent price and don't care about internet access or taking the metro, the Bloom is a good bet.
