“worst experience ever had”

Bedford Hotel

9 Jun 2008

I've seen many hotels around the world but none like this one. To be short: no way to be a 4 stars hotel. The only advantage is the location, nearby historical centre. Otherwise, the whole experience was a nightmare. We've been in Bedford Hotel at the beggining of June. Our pijamas simply dissapeared one day. Asking for an explanation the guy from the reception , totaly unpolite, started by laughing, then told us he cannot do anything and in the end he suggested to "call the FBI if you want!" . The attitude of the whole staff (except the door man) was unapropriate (to be kind and not saying aggresive, rude and naughty). Poor breakfast, limited offer in the restaurant and the quality of the food was questionable, small rooms, the cleaning ladies comming when they want (early in the morning, late in the evening or not comming at all) entering the room without asking for permission. As per reception, they should replace all the people working there. Never seen such an attitude in Europe or anywhere in the world. Just one advice: AVOID IT!.

“Avoid it like the plague”

Bedford Hotel

7 Jun 2008

Four stars for this hotel is a heavy overstatement. Rooms small and hot (was there in June), but clean, service and meals way below average, staff (even in the restaurant) gruff and unfriendly.
I stayed there on a business trip organized by my customer. I witnessed a guest being humiliated because she asked for someting vegetarian instead of the fixed meal they serve.
One afternoon, I put my laptop on a chair in the lobby, covered by a ceiling camera, (chair was about 5 meters from the entrance), and stepped outside for a cigarette, checking the chair now and again. Hotel staff was around, receptionists had a clear view on entrance and the lobby.
Five minutes later, the laptop was gone. I called the manager who was particularly aggressive, and refused to help in any way. He even refused to provide the police phone number, telling me to look it up on the Internet. Staff said they hadn't seen anything, and that the ceiling camera "may not be working."
When I reported the case to the police, they told me that laptops get stolen in the Bedford "on a regular basis". They also agreed with my opinion that the staff must have been involved as perpetrator or accomplice.
This is a hotel that has made it its business to rob its guests.
Avoid it if you can, sit on your belongings if you can't.

“Never go to the Bedford in Brussels”

The hotel is clearly not 4 star, the staff is anything but helpful. On the 3rd day of our stay, our hand luggages (with laptops, important documents, keys and passports) were stolen from the lobby just 3-4 meters from the place we were standing. The londiner, who was within a radius of 2 meters, obviously didn't notice anything, the reception was not willing to call the police, the manager on duty even refused to give us the number, saying we should check it on the internet or got to the police station. There are cameras installed in the lobby, but when we called the police; the manager said that "the cameras might not be working for the moment". The police told us that things like that happen regularly at the Bedford, and asked us whether we had the suspicion of the staff being involved. Based on all the above, you could guess the answer.

Just to wrap it up, no one from the hotel ever came to us saying they were sorry or offering any assistance. Welcome to the Bedford, welcome to the real world.

“Bad experience”

I stayed here during a business trip to Brussels in May 2008. The hotel has 4 stars only for location and conference rooms purposes: it is located 500 metres from Grand Place and has 5 meeting rooms. It is definetely a business hotel, with small rooms, most of them smoking rooms, which gives them a preatty bad odour.
The hotels's staff is not friendly, the receptionists are talking a bad english and acting as if all the time they are doing you a favour for giving some of their pretious time. You feel emabarassed that you asked for their help and preffer to take care of your problem without their help.
The doormen are the only one helping, but only for calling cabs, not for helping you with luggage, directions, etc.
The breakfast was ok, despite the fact that we did not have too many to choose from.
I would definetely look for a nother hotel when going to Brussels!

I have just checked out of this 'hotel' and I must admit that I am getting a sort of sadistic pleasure from writing this review from their 'Business Centre'. Maybe you are wondering - why the explanation marks - it's because everything in this place is an imitation. Four stars? Come on... I arrived, room had an awful odour, I saw five more, all with a very poignant smell. Every room I saw had mould on the walls, calc on the taps, stained carpets, bed linen that looked like it had been picked up from an orphanage 'Everything Must GO!' sale and staff that - well - I can't even describe them. The first night, I came in to the night porter, tallish Belgian guy, he saw me and walked off - subsequently leaving me waiting for ten minutes, when he came back he uttered 'Wha' u wan?' I asked him if he thought his manner was in line with the four star rating - he looked at me, shrugged and said - in the most aggressive tone I have heard in a long time 'Live with it'. I wanted to enquire about corporate rates, no one could show around the rooms - I needed clean towels - I was told that I had to have the ones I was given - The minibar was empty even though it was a 'Business Suite' - The 'fitness' room (5 machines) with its 'Panoramic Views' - Really? Panoramic? No, No, No - lie after lie after lie. Regarding the staff - all i can assume is they are paid awful money and so find it necessary to take it out on the customers. There were three great people; Dutch girl on the front desk, day clerk and the doorman, unfortunately, them being nice just didn't make up for the absolute abismal quality of this 1970's - esque hotel. If you have settled for the Bedford Hotel, pick somewhere else, the neighborhood is dangerous - I speak from 17 years Belgian experience and this place is appalling. It is such a shame to have this diabolical establishment ruining Brussels and I am sure, making tourists regret ever visiting the capital.

The most annoying thing about the hotel is that everything is so easily 'fixable' - A few losses of staff, a couple of training days and a lick of paint and it would be 'livable'.

The bottom line is that this hotel is worth 1 Star and what with the potential of this hotel - view its proximity to the town centre - it is a wasted building.
