If you are looking for a good Hotel in Brussels town center the Melia is a good choice. We always stay there when in Brussels because it is in the center and you can walk everywhere.
Breakfast is good and the rooms are nice. No restaurant but there is a bar and room service for food. Ask for an executive room, the bed is great and really, really big. I always book directly via the solmelia website for better rates. Satellite TV, minibar and internet acces in the room. Lovely Melia Decor. The only problem is that the hotel is not air conditioned so in the summer is really hot even with the window open. But most of the hotel in Brussels have no air-con. The hotel has a garage (14 euro a day) and there is a fantastic restaurant round the corner in Rue Florence 26 called Le Chou de Bruxelles, closed on Sunday. Go there! Fantastic belgian food and the best mussels and chips at Good Price. In the Grand Place avoid all the tourist trap restaurants go only to El Kelderke, very good restaurant for good belgian food at good price. No stop service, cannot book.

“trip for the christmas markets”

We stayed at this hotel as we wanted to see the christmas markets, as long as you get used to the public transport system the distance is not too bad. The hotel looked nice when we first arrived, but the room itself was a little dated with its decor. The room was lovely and traditional, but the bath was not overly suitable for us as we are both 6ft tall. Obviously the length of the bath would not concern everybody, but it was shorter than regular size baths. The area around the hotel is lovely and there is a nice supermarket nearby.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — The room was a lovely size with a big comfy bed.
    • Disliked — The bath was rather short.

“the hotel was fantastic”

the hotel was a great surprise! the location was central but quiet, not too tourisitc but close to all city important palces to visit (20 minutes walk to the grand place on one direction, 20 minutes walk to the EU headqourter to the other). many places open till midnight in the erea, great chocolate shops around :). the room was hugh, about 45 sqm, the bath was equipped to the last detail, there is a pillow menu (!), candies and chocolate, even a great book about brussels was in the room.
we had a great trip, and the hotel was fantastic.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — the specious room, the accessories in the bath, the pillow menu, the golden book of brussels
    • Disliked — the bathroom door opens in, which makes it a bit uncomfortable. and there is no clock in the room!!!

“Unprofessional Manager Karin Jogman”

We were so disappointed when we reported an article of jewellery had gone missing from our room in the interim period of going to breakfast and returning to our room. Please be very cautious with your belongings at this hotel. The management was very unsupportive and gave us no assistance nor was she sympathetic to my loss.

My room price was quoted to my travel agent as 69 euro per night, but when it came time to check out, I was charged only 34.50 euro per night (including breakfast)! Additionally, the staff member who checked me in upgraded me to a better room. This could have been since I was staying for a long time (8 nights) on business, but either way, wow. The breakfast is delicious and the staff was very helpful to me - the minibar thing sounds shady but that wasn't my experience at all.

The hotel is located in a nice area near to public transport. There are a few drawbacks I would list. First, even though I called before my trip to ensure that a room would be ready for me - I arrived at 9 a.m. and I was very tired and wanted a quick nap - there wasn't, and I had to store my luggage in their closet and hang out in the city for 4 hours before I could have my room. It's not really a good hotel for singles - it's in a good AREA for singles (restaurants, cafes, shops), but the hotel itself seemed to be more for groups or couples (for example, there is a place to have a drink but not a formal "bar"). Additionally, although the room was decorated very nicely, there were a few dingy things, like the stained chair cover on the desk seat and some spots on the wallpaper. And, my biggest complaint, the internet access is VERY expensive - 17 euro for 24 hours and 10 euro for one hour! I was able to pirate wifi from a local network but even so, if you have an aversion to paying a lot of money for internet, be careful!

Even so, a total bargain for what I paid!
