Wanted to go away for a bit before Christmas and thought Brussels would be perfect for the Christmas Market. After booking a train with Eurostar, looked on Tripadvisor for a hotel (as I always do) and came across this absolute cracker of a hotel. Taking all the reviews on board, I made a reservation through Booking.com and got a great deal at about £50pn for a double room.
The room itself (301) was very nice and spaceous with a "hallway" with a wardrobe for coats, shoes etc with an electronic safe for valuables. The room was a generous size with a large window (which didn't look out onto much) and a double bed (which was discovered to be two singles attached, but no matter). There was a TV, satellite, mini bar and all the nice little pleasantaries like welcoming sweets, choice of pillows and stationary. Decorated nicely in a classical style with elegant furniture and paintings on the walls and plenty of light.
The bathroom was very nice, tiled top to bottom in marble and granite with a lovely complementary bathroom kit you wouldn't be ashamed to give as a gift. It was small though, not enough space to even bring a cat in, but all the features were in there and it was nice and clean and shiny.
The hotel itself doesn't have a huge range of facilities (despite being a supposed 4*) but the conciege were always pleasant and helpful especially when we checked in by letting us know where things were and how we'd like to get around. Breakfast was included with our room so we ate a buffet of the usual continental foods with cold cuts, fresh bread, cheeses, scrambled eggs, bacon, cereals and pasteries. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate always on the go; the waitress was more than helpful. An A la carte menu is available too for additional cooked items as well as a rather splendid room service menu (if not a bit expensive). At 22 Euros for breakfast, I wouldn't pay it as it does seem quite expensive and can be found after taking a short walk into the city.
Located in the 1000 district, it is really close to the major attractions with the high-class shopping right at the doorstep. but nice and peaceful at night. The Metro station is 8min walk away in a straight line which will take you to all the places really quickly (and no-one seems to care if you buy a ticket or not) so take full advantage of it but you can walk your way around in a few hours.
In summary, a wonderful trip away and an absolute steal of a hotel if you get a good deal and would definitely go back if things keep up.
