“You couldnt swing a cat round in this room!”

Hotel Chambord

29 Feb 2008

We arrived at this hotel Saturday early evening and were impressed from the outside. We were given our key to room 71 on 7th floor and told where the lift was. Got in the lift and the first problem was it only went to 6. As you exit the lift there is no sign re 7th floor so returned to ground. Maid sent us up in the service lift and followed her directions..the back stairs up to 7th. Opened the door and could not believe how small the room was! About 6 inches space either side of the bed! The portable TV you nearly bang your head on as you walk in the door and a wardrobe you cant fully open the doors of as the bed is in the way! Went down and asked to change room and told hotel was fully booked. So thought we would put up with it. Next morning breakfast was a total fiasco. 7am to 10am. Turned up around 9.10 and there was almost nothing available. Had to clear our own table to sit down. A very small amount of cold scrambled egg, fruit juice in a jug on the side and some french bread. The ham and cheese trays were empty as were the croissant trays and no sign of them being replenished! We found out Monday morning that there should have been bacon too! Slightly better service on Monday although I did still have to go looking for someone to order our tea/coffee. Im sure they have some very nice rooms available in the hotel and I would have love to have seen one and what a mini bar looks like. One of my main reasons for booking this hotel was that it had a bar but when we asked we were told "No Bar". I wouldnt recommend this hotel to ANYONE!

We booked a 4 night stay in Brussels as part of a Eurostar package. We were looking for an inexpensive deal to explore a new city with our two teenage children.
The reviews of the hotel on trip adviser were not great so our expectations were not too high.
The Chambord was fine. It is in a good location within 10mins walk of many of the key areas. It is handy for the metro although we did struggle to get to grips with the public transport system. There are plenty of places to eat near-by, away from the tourist traps near to the Grand Place. The buffet breakfast was very good.
The rooms were not that great, a bit care worn but bedding was crisp and fresh and there was maid service each day with changes of towels etc. Several reviewers mentioned the heat - we slept with the door to the balcony open so that we got a fresh Feb breeze, so hot was the room. If you want more luxury there are plenty of other hotels but clearly at a much higher price.
We had a fabulous break in this smart city and if I didnt want to pay for the extras I would be quite happy to stay here again.

“Lovely Hotel with a bonus breakfast”

You can see the Hotel Chambord when you come out of the Porte de Namur metro station which is very convenient for arriving late at night as we did.
We were pleased with the size and quality of the room and bathroom and the heating system which ensured we were never cold. An unexpected bonus was that a buffet breakfast is automatically included in the price of your stay, something we didn't expect booking through a last minute website. Breakfast included hot bacon and eggs, croissants and other bread products, cereal, fruit, ham and cheese. A substantial fill could be had and the quality was good.
The only downside was the location. The nearby metro excellent as we used it to get nearly everywhere. It is close to the Louise shopping district and the palace and museums, but further away from more touristy areas such as Grand Place.
However, a great hotel, providing convenient access to Brussels.

“Avoid At All Costs”

Hotel Chambord

We booked in here as part of a package with Eurostar from London. On arrival, the hotel looked good. We weren't expecting (and hadn't paid for) 5*. Our room wasn't ready, but the guy behind the desk was very nice so we waited in reception for ten minutes and were then given our key to Room 5.

The room was tiny, smelt and overlooked an inner courtyard that housed air-con units and was covered in hundreds of fag ends. The ceiling tiles were water stained; paintwork was peeling; it smelt damp; the bathroom was miniscule and was dirty.

We stayed one night (having paid for four) and left (without using the bathroom) the following morning and made our way down to Grand Place and booked into the Ibis - it was like paradise in comparison. Hotel Chambord is bloody awful. Avoid it like the plague - or stay there and risk getting it.

“Seems nice from the outside until you get to the room!”

Hotel Chambord

my boyfriend and i booked a last minute euro star break to Brussels for the weekend before Xmas for a get away. we arrived at the eurostar station in brussels midi and went on the metro to this hotel.( i am sorry but i cannot remember the metro stop, but it was 4 stops from the station on the orange going towards the right of the metro map!!) when you get off the metro, the hotel is pretty much in front of you across the road.

we walked in and were greeted my the receeption. the interior in the reception area was very modern, fairly sparse but quite neat and clean. we then we told where our room was but we were not taken there which was the first bad thing about this hotel. then when we were in the lift we got stuck between two floors. it is an old lift and there was some sensor there so u had to make sure u stood to the back of the lift!!! finally we made it, and went to our room. we were on the top floor and had a lovely room with a terrace balcony and a big room. we later realised that they had upgraded us to the penthouse suite, so we had no complaints there with the room.

on our visit we saw some of the other rooms and they really were not nice! they were tiny, dirty and in desperate need for a lick of paint!

the breakfast was one of the worst i have had in a hotel. there was the usual cereals etc, coffee was served at your table and was tepid temperature, there was no toaster for the bread, and then mini croissants / pain au choclate etc.

one evening i wasnt feeling well and woke up in need of some water. there was a mini bar in our room with water needing a bottle opener, but there wasnt one. i went downstairs to ask for one and they didnt have one!!!!!!!!! they then told me i had to walk to the nearest shop if i wanted water, bearing in mind it was the middle of the night. i asked for tap water and they werent going to give me any until i become angry with them and then they did.

the next day our fuse went into the bathroom and we told reception and they wouldnt go fix it until midnight that day as there was no one there to do it, by which point we would have been in bed!

this hotel has the potential to be nice. it is in fab location 10 mins walk from the grand place and the old city centre, but it seriously lacked in cleanliness, customer service, hospitality and proffessionalism. i wouldnt recommend this at all.
