“Rather disappointing”

Recently stayed at this hotel as part of a conference package, staying on for a couple of days afterwards.
Usually we are very satisfied with Accor hotels in general and have always recommended them but not this time.
The hotel is in a good setting, close to the Galeries Louise area of Brussels and well situated for the Metro, cafes and bars and about 20 minutes walk from the centre of Brussels, so can't fault it there, and the rooms are average size, fairly well appointed with huge very comfortable beds, so no problem there either.....The problem? They don't deliver what they say they will - First of all there was a misunderstanding with our booking, even though I had a confirming email with the correct details. On one occasion my wife went down to breakfast at 9:50am to be told that breakfast was closed (the brochure and hotel literature all say breakfast until 10:30am weekdays). After pointing out this fact the waiter grudgingly gave her a coffee and allowed her to take the few scraps of cheese and ham that were left. Then there was drilling above our room at 7:30 in the morning; and finally, our room wasn't made up until 5:30pm on the Saturday - again due to the original misunderstanding about our booking that had been sorted out (they assured me) after we checked in.

Summary - location good; rooms average to good; service worse than average. Not recommended at Avenue Louise prices.

“Not as good as expected”

Read other reviews about this hotel and they were mostly accurate. The rooms were as expected but we were surprised that we only had one bathrobe and one pair of slippers between us. Perhaps our expectations have become higher but this hotel is definitely not in the luxury class. We would say that it is a good class business hotel. Other reviewers praised the breakfast but it was again only what would be expected from a good class business hotel, good but not outstanding.

The location as described in other reviews is a little bit out of the centre but this did not really bother us as we were on vacation and were not pushed for time. We did find a good restaurant by turning right on Ave Toison D'Or and walking towards the next Metro stop at Porte de Namur.

We won't be in a hurry to return to this hotel or Brussels itself. We found Brussels to be dirty and full of beggars. One place to definitely avoid in the evenings is the Gare Central. When we passed through the Metro and Main Line Station on the way to the Grand Place it was full of down and outs who were getting food from a soup kitchen in the Metro Subway.

“Excellent hotel !”

We had a great time at the Sofitel Toison d’Or, on a week-end with my wife and mother-in-law, despite the fact that the hotel was to be renovated in the upcoming months. We got two double non-smoking rooms on the 5th floor, which was what we’ve asked for when booking through the official Sofitel website. The rooms were of very good size, extremely quite and spotless… and equipped with the marvellous My Bed concept !
The staff is polite and very discreet, but if you need something they’ll do their very best to help you. As an example, we needed some information about a restaurant in the area, which we quickly got from the lady at the desk, but she also gave us some advices about the other restaurants in the area and the area itself – advices that appeared to be clever and very useful !
We have tried the bar once and found it was the perfect place to relax after a long walk : warm & cosy, with beautiful bow-windows opening on the main street, and a large choice of beverages, including, of course, some of the best Belgian beers, at affordable prices.
The hotel is ideally located, in an excellent district, 50 meters away from the ‘Louise’ subway station.
The only minor complaint we could find is that there is no restaurant in the hotel, which is rather strange for a 4-5 stars establishment – or maybe was it closed at that time because of the renovation in progress ? Anyway, there are plenty of restaurants close to the hotel and it was definitely not difficult to find a place to eat.
We tried many hotels in Brussels over the years, including the Metropole, the Marriott and other establishments mainly located in the Grand-Place area, and we think that the Sofitel Toison d’Or is by far superior, not to mention the real bargain we got by booking the “Da Vinci” package (105 euros / night including breakfasts).
We will definitely go there again.

“Perfect bed after a long trip”

Sofitel Brussels Le Louise

This is a fantastic hotel that satisfied our needs in every way. We stayed here for 4 nights, as a starting point for our European trip. From the moment you see the hotel facade, the impression of sophistication awaits inside. The hotel is set inside a classic European building. The interior also reflects a respectfully maintained hotel, with classic European touches decorating the lobby and the hallways.

When we arrived, we had come off a 24 hour journey, so we were very tired. You could imagine how grateful I was that our room came with the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. They even had some notes on the bed design and features to enhance comfort. I admit, I can't remember if we were upgraded, which maybe why we had a great bed. The room, and bathroom, was quite spacious, clean, with an old world charm. We also found luxurious amenities to use in the bathroom.

The staff themselves were very professional and courteous. We had a slight system problem at check-out, but once the manager was brought in, the problem was quickly resolved without further delay.

The hotel is located on a main street, but still surprisingly quiet and within walking distance to the metro (subway). The neighbourhood is also very safe. The city centre of Brussels is about a 20 minute downhill walk, where you can pass some stunning views overlooking the great city. Cafes and bars are also in the vicinity of the hotel.

If you're here for business or leisure, this hotel will certainly suit your needs.
