This hotel is about 15 minutes walk over cobbled streets from the Eurostar terminal (a bit bumpy with a suitcase!). It is in a quiet, residential area with no shops around and the nearest restaurants are 10 minutes walk. The old town of Liege is a good 10 minutes walk away via several different routes.
On entering, the hotel looks OK as the reception and lounge have clearly had an up-date and are quite presentable. However, the rooms are in dire need of a make-over! I can best describe it as being suitable for students or back-packers (no insult intended!) - the furniture is old, the carpets and decoration shabby and the bathrooms out of the dark ages. We insisted on being moved from Room 27, hardly more than a box room with just a tiny wardrobe and no cupboards, shelves or drawers for belongings! Room 31 was bigger, but still shabby, and the 2 steps going into the bathroom/shower were positively dangerous!
Our opinion of the hotel wasn't helped by the fact that our room rate had been increased by over 120% (!!!!) because we unfortunately, and unknowingly, chose to travel over the Belgian Grand Prix weekend. Had we paid the usual rate of approx 80 euros per night we may have forgiven Le Cygne some of it's shortcomings!
The breakfast @ 9 euros p.p. extra was acceptable, but not fantastic, but with the lack of any alternative close by it was useful to eat on site rather than have to go hunting elsewhere. There is a free use computer in the lounge and I believe wi-fi is free, although I didn't use it. Reception staff were very pleasant and friendly.
Ask to see the room first before accepting it!
