Two friends and I spent three nights in the Melba during a visit to the Battle of the Bulge battlefields. We had a large comfortable room which was very clean and quite. The hotel owners, were very friendly and helpful. The hotel had a nice, homey atmosphere and the guests seemed to be enjoying their stay. The food was well prepared and served by the owners wife who was an exceptional lady. There were several British veterans staying a the hotel while we were there and they were an added pleasure. Breakfast was very good and varied for a small hotel. The hotel is only a short walk to the town square and central to the battlefields. Certainly a good value.

Servicei tend to avoid the chain hotels and prefer small family run places - although some can be disasters. having tried to get into a couple of other places in Bastogne recently, one was closed for their summer break in August - very helpful, and the other didn't answer the phone, we ended up in the Melba. the room was fine in the style of chain hotels everywhere. what made it for me was it was conveniently just off the main square in bastogne, yet down a quiet side street with plenty of safe parking at the back of the hotel, the breakfast was just that bit better than the norm (with some lovely local cheese), everything was clean and worked (like the sauna) and the staff were friendly and helpful. i would definitely return.
While on business in Brussels, I took a side trip to Bastogne. I stayed at the Melba in February, 2003 to take a tour of the battleground. The place provided high quality rooms, a great restaurant (best meals I had in Belgium), and very friendly service. The atmosphere was very local and gave one a sense of Europoean athenticity. It is very convenient to the center of town (about three blocks).
I am returning this year with several members of my family
