in december 2011 i booked a tour with Reg to surprise my housband, who is madly passionate about the history of WWII and in particular of the 101st Airborne Division and the E-Company.
so i choosed a Band of Brother Tour, to visit all the battlefield spot that we saw on the HBO tv series that glorify the E-company and of course also their acts during the Battle of The Boulge.
there are no words to tell how amazing this tour was! first of all it took place on the week end of Bastonge commemoration, so we could enjoy all the festivities, we could see all the things that the town prepares to commemorate this important history date: the parades, the nuts throwing and so on..
but with Reg it was all another level...he knows every little detail, everything about men, weapon, strategy, alle the "behind the scene" stuff. he takes you around with his van, stopping every now and then to explain how the battle of Bastogne toke place. for two people like us it was an amazing axeperience. with no comparison!
we visited the actual wood (the "jack woods") were the E-D-F Companies were stucked at -30° during the christmas of '44. we saw the holes the soldiers digged to hide and protect themselves in order to fight the nazi . it was so moving, so deeply touching.
the tour should have lasted a whole day, but during our coffè break we where surprised by a VIP visit and we had to make a detour..but it was even better, we met some awsome 101st veterans that otherwise we could never met. we visited some place (such as the barraks that was the headquarter of the division during the war) that were not part of the original tour..but who cares whene you can have such an incredible day?
thanks reg to make all that possible, it was one of the greatest gateway of our lives!!!
you are an amazing guide!!!
