This is delightful hotel with oodles of character, very comfortable accommodation and a very helpful staff. What more do you want? Its a small hotel in a medieval building away from the busiest area but within five minutes walk to the market Square. The situation is on a canal (without boats and therefore very quiet). The rooms are spacious with (in our case) a good king sized bed and antique furniture. The bathroom was modern, of a very generous size, with a an unusually large bath ,but with only a hand shower. The public rooms are limited but very nicely furnished in again an antique style. There is a small terrace to sit out on but without a view.

The breakfast is adequate but limited - a fruit salad would be nice.

Overall the hotel deserves a much better rating than is currently afforded by Trip Advisor.

The critical comments about the towels are well justified and I mentioned them to the owner(?) who shrugged his shoulders and said that he had had the same problem in Corfu last week!

Put up with the poor towels and go there!

“Great Hotel”

Hotel Ter Brughe

30 May 2008

4 of us stayed 2 nights in rooms 50 and 51.Rooms were very nice overlooking canal. Big bathroms with 2 basins, bath, and shower head ( but nowhere to hang it). Beds very comfortable. Breakfast served in basement room overlooking canal. There were families with children who were delighted to see the ducks come to the window for feeding. Good selection of cold meat, bread and cheese, as well as cereals and fruit. The athmosphere was lovely, and the hotel very centrally located. I highly recommend it. Look forward to going back soon.

Finding Ter Brugge on line was quite by luck and we were so delighted with the hotel. We arrived early but was given a room
right away, Room 42, on the first landing. It was a large room with a niche, overlooking the canal. High ceilings with exposed timbers, fireplace and antiques furnished the room. A large bath with a typical European shower...the bathroom could have used a little more light, but that was no problem. The room was clean and well maintained, I don't remember worn towels, perhaps new one have been purchased and they were large. There was a pleasant lounge at the reception and the breakfast was served on the lower floor where you could look out over the canal.Ter Brugge had character, charm and a wonderful old world comfort.
I highly recommend it and if I ever return to Brugge, will make reservations there, for room 42. My husband and I are both 65
and the few steps in the hotel were no problem for us, nor was the 10 minute walk to the main square.

“Great stay”

Hotel Ter Brughe

20 Mar 2008

I spent a night in Brugge after a buisness conference in Brussells and stayed here for one night in February by myself. The hotel was great. The location was perfect, almost the center of Brugge within walking distance of everything you could possibly want to see. The staff were extremely nice and polite. The bed was extremely comfortable and the bathroom was really large. A great value for the money!

“An excellent stay at the Hotel Ter Brughe”

My mother and I have just come back from a 4-night stay at the Hotel Ter Brughe in Bruges. It is a lovely old building, full of character, and we thoroughly enjoyed staying there. We had a 'renovated room' on the first floor (room 52). The room has windows on 2 sides, and overlooks the canal from one side. We found the room extremely comfortable and clean, and very peaceful and quiet - we could hear no sounds from the people in the adjoining rooms. There were a few quirks, like the walk across the room to get from the toilet door to the bathroom door (with no basin in the loo), but it all added to the character of the place, as far as we were concerned. The bathroom was spacious, with 2 basins; the bath had a hand-held shower. The towels were absolutely fine.. we didn't have the problems others have reported here... perhaps they have replaced all the worn-out ones now(?). The renovated room we stayed in still retained an air of faded grandeur - don't expect bright and modern updating, or you will probably be disappointed!

The hotel is in a lovely location, and the breakfast room has a superb view of the canal; the continental breakfast buffet itself was extremely good. The bar area was warm and cosy. My only slight quibble is that the hotel as a whole was a bit too hot, but we were able to turn the radiators in our bedroom off, so it didn't cause us any real problems.

The staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful. The local 'hidden gem' of a restaurant which they recommended for my mum's special birthday meal was delightful, with excellent food.

We booked ourselves onto a day-long Flanders Fields tour, organised by Quasimodo Tours, and which visits First World War sites (you can be picked up from the hotel). Philippe, the guide, was superb, and he gave us a wealth of information about the places we were visiting. A fascinating and moving trip, which we would thoroughly recommend. This is not the tour that is advertised in the foyer of the hotel... I don't know what that one is like, but the 'Quasimodo' minibus tour we went on would take a lot of beating!

Just one warning - there is no lift in the hotel, so you need to specify that you need a ground floor room if you won't be able to manage the stairs.

We would have no hesitation in staying at the Hotel Ter Brughe again.
