The location of Hotel Nicolas is great! Less than five minutes from the main square, you basically turn the corner off the little side street and run in to the tourist center of Brugge.

The hotel is very basic--there's no TV or phone in the room, and no elevator for people (thankfully, there's a little lift for your luggage). But it's clean and well-maintained (if a little on the run down side), on a cute little street that's surrounded by charming Brugge architecture. We stayed in room 103, which had the extra bonus of being the only room with a bay window, which gave us an extra nice view. That was a double bed room; the twin bed rooms seemed to be a little more spacious.

The free breakfast was very, very simple--rolls and toast, a platter of cold cuts and some cereal and morning beverages. Try the chocolate and honey spread instead of jam for a real morning buzz! My real complaint was that it was only served from 8:30 to 10:30, and we missed it on our early mornings. Similarly, we had to check out at 7:50 am to catch a train, and no employees were at the front desk or available when we pushed the buzzer.

There is a very handy late night mini-mart down the street where you can get water and snacks and even a bottle of beer, if necessary!

A nice hotel. The staff were extremely helpful, for example on our last day they served us breakfast at 8 am, even though breakfast normally started at 8.30 so we would make an early start on our journey home. The location is excellent, only 2 minutes walk from the main square. The rooms were basic but comfortable with en suite bathroom, and the breakfast was fine. Very good value overall, I would certainly go back.

I score this hotel as a 5 based on the location and value for money. It really is in the heart of Brugge and only minutes walk from the city centre bars, restaurants and sights. Also, don't worry about fleas - there aren't any in this hotel. The hotel provide anti-mosquito plug ins free of charge if you are worried about bites.

We've stayed in the city 4 or 5 times before and this hotel is at least half of the cost of the others and is equally comfortable. It is family run and they are very helpful. There's no parking at the hotel but there is a public carpark (underground) within 50 metres. This costs €8.50 per 24 hours, so just dump the car in there because you wont need it whilst in Brugge.

Brugge is a beautiful place well worth visiting for a long weekend. It's one of the few places in Europe that you wont find grafitti and where you wont be pestered by street sellers. Eating out and drinking can be very expensive, so check the menus outside beforehand.

If you are driving from the UK, checkout Norfolk lines. They do a good deal from Dover to Dunkirque and that means you only have another 40 minutes to drive up to Brugge.

Hotel was central to the market. It's a family runned hotel and they are nice. If you stay on the street side be careful as people at night are loud and can keep you awake. Walls are quite thin so you can hear ppl walking, talking, a babies crying at night. Other than that it's a cute place and is only 60 Euros..can't beat that. Breakfast was very basic. Bread, cheese, meat...but again, 60 Euros is almost a steal!
