Excellent Historic Building stay with modern touches! I stayed at the Relais Ravestein with my husband for a long weekend. The hotel is in a gorgeous, historic building that was built in around 1000 - 1100! Wow!
DECOR: The building has preserved much of the original architecture, but has sleek and modern decor. Rooms were great : very spacious and bathrooms were beautiful, with excellent separte tub and shower. I loved this hotel!
FOOD: The breakfast in the mornings were absolutely delicious. The hotel restaurant has delicious gourmet food for dinner, I had an excellent 4 course meal that would be on par to any top rated fine dining restaurant in the United States (I would put this restaurant against Tru in Chicago, or Daniel in New York). The hotel service is very helpful and excellent (like the Four Seasons or Peninsula)!!!!!
LOCATION: The location is great and you can walk to everything. Only 5 - 10 minute walk to the main Markt in Brugge. Brugge is so tiny, you really need to walk to everything to make it a memorable experience anyway, walking along the canals and seeing the historic, old gorgeous buildings and architecture is such a pleausre as well as trying delicious food along the way such as frites, warm spiced red wine (Glug), Belgian waffles, chocolate, etc! Then the Groeninge Museum and Hans Memling Museums had small, but amazing collections and were a real treat to visit.
BRUGGE: When you arrive to Brugge, taxis can rip you off (it should be about 5 - 10 euros from the train station to the Ravestein). It is best to simply take the bus immediately outside of the train station in Brugge and then walk to the hotel (the "Centrum" bus goes to the Markt), then the other buses stop every 70 meters, or you can have the hotel prepare a taxi for you if you know your arrival time. It takes 50 minutes to get to Brugge from Brussels and trains leave Brussels every 30 minutes or so. Brussels and Brugge were very easy to travel to since most people speak english, but also a great location to practice a little French and learn some Dutch =)
Overall, I highly recommend this hotel. I loved Brugge and can't wait to go back to Relais Ravestein. The location, service and gorgeous hotel just can't be beat.
