A group of us, friends and family from 7 to 85, visited the Moody Gardens Acquarium just before Christmas. The acquarium is a great spot for families, lots of things to see and do. This trip though, we did something out of the ordinary...the Private Penguin Encounter! Your private group meets with one of the staff biologists and gets an introduction to the penguin exhibit out front on the public side. Then you get to go "behind the scenes" and see what they eat, how they are cared for, seeing, hearing, and smelling what you normally never know about. Then, the handler will bring one of the penguins in to meet your group. If he/she is cooperative (ours was) you may even get to touch the penguin. As a keepsake, they have the penguin create "art" by hopping across an art board with different colored ink/paint on it's feet. Everyone in the group gets a piece of penguin art...a pretty unusual keepsake for sure.
We had a very nice visit, parking was not much of a problem, the grounds and facility are clean and the staff is helpful. It may not be cheap entertainment, but it's a memorable outing.
