We spent two nights in mid-June at the Bears Cove Inn. This is a relatively new building, on a secondary road very near to the coast. The office, dining room and a small common room, as well as a few rooms, are on the first floor; the remaining rooms are on the second floor (no elevator). We had a room at the front of the inn on the second floor. It was nicely furnished, if a bit small; with the suitcases on the floor, there was little room to walk through. The room included a double bed (very comfy), a private bath and a small balcony. And from that balcony, we could see, out in Witless Bay, an iceberg on our first day there, and a second one on the next day! The Inn does have free wireless Internet access; ask the staff for the access code. Breakfast is available at the Inn, but not included in the price of the room: approx. $5 for continental and about $8 for American.
The owners and their staff are very friendly, and helpful in suggesting restaurants, gift shops, and local attractions. The rooms are spotless, and the food good. It was the most expensive of the places we stayed, but I believe the rate is comparable to others in that area (near St. John’s and the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve).
