We visited Alfagar 2 last year and we returned this year.
It really is a brilliant Apartment complex set in a lovely village style development. You might be concerned when you arrive that there is a building site next door. Don't worry though. The site belongs to Alfagar and the staff told me it is intended to be Alfagar 3. Building work has been abandoned for the forseaable future though, so there is no noise disturbance from the site.
The location is brilliant. The immediate exterior is spacious and the pools are lovely. it is very peaceful, with no loud music being played outside, as is often the case around hotel pools these days.
The rest of the complex merges into the gardens of Alfagar 2 and is the original Alfagar apartments- set in more lovely gardens over a large area. The two other large pool areas are also excellent and free for you to use. One of which whiich has a view right over the sea- spectacular!
There is a children's playground by the Alfagar 2 pool and another by the Alfagar bar restaurant, which also has a further splash pool for the children.
The Alfagar bar has a great range of food and drinks all reasonably priced. The adjoining a-la-carte restaurant is also very good. I had a lovely seabass and perfect fillet steak there- delicious!
The complex has a good little supermarket- well stocked and reasonable prices. There is also another supermarket at the Alto da Colina (First choice holiday village algarve) just over the road. We didnt need to go anywhere else for the 12 nights we were staying, and they have nappies in all sizes which was helpful as we ran out!
Regular bus services mean easy access to Vilamoura and Albufeira etc....the bus stops right outside Alfagar 2.
The only negative I would have is the buffet restaurant in Alfagar 2. I have still rated this property 5 star, as I do so as an apartment complex, not a hotel. The problem Alfagar II has is the hotel restaurant providing breakfasts and / or dinner to those on BB / HB basis is quite poor.
Last year we booked HB and reverted to BB three days in as it was just not worth the expense. This year we booked BB, but in future we will go self catering. If you have been to 4 star Riu / H10 / Iberostar hotels, please be aware the buffet breakfast / dinner at Alfagar is not anywhere near that quality or variety. They don't even have a chef making omelettes / frying eggs etc at breakfast now, although they did last year. I just feel Alfagar 2 has tried to bolt on hotel catering services to a great apartment complex and it comes up a bit short in that regard.
The indoor pool is open, but the rest of the gym and fitness centre has yet to be completed, but we would not have used it anyway so did not cause us any issue.
That said, Alfagar 2 is a brilliant place to stay. It has fabulously well equipped and spacious apartments which are very comfortable. The staff are also very friendly and welcoming. We will definitely return!
