The hotel itself is very clean and has good facilities. Rooms were big, 2 of us, self catering couldn't ask for a better apartment, and loved the cute matching sinks in the bathroom.
The fully equipped kitchen with everything you would be likely to need, even a bottle opener. The lounge area is big and I liked that you got a clothes airer on the balcony (kept balconies tidy). Im not sure I would have like AI, especially when there were time frames for eating and the cocktails and certain drinks you had to pay more for.
The pool area is very clean and relaxing when the weather is too hot to do much else. We tried the food in the pool bar, thought it was bland and expensive, when you are not all inclusive. So we hopped on the courtesy bus, goes around 10am and 12pm and get off at the stop for sister hotel paraisio (looked like a nice hotel), turn left and walk not even 3 mins down the road to a big supermarket that sells everything you will need (modelo). The little shop on site is handy for ice creams and pop when you fancy it but wouldn't buy much else there unless you had to ,as it's 50% dearer than the supermarkets. The Courtesy bus only stops at the hotel weekdays and no later than lunch time during the week, so stock up. If you get off the bus at the 1st stop for the D'agua beach,(day time only but goes at weekends) carry on left down that main road a little you find a supermarket on the right hand side. It was only €3.90 for a taxi back to the hotel. Great bread rolls and get Big tanks of water for €40cents for your room. By the way don't bother with this beach as it's small and gets crowded. Best buy is wine, usually 3€ for a bottle.
We got the courtesy bus into the old town each evening and ate out there. Great lively place, with bars and restaurants aplenty. Drinks are expensive, but the wine is reasonable, so drink a plenty. The cobbled streets make wearing heels a bit pointless as you are more likely to go a cropper. Some of the waiters are keen to sit you anywhere, if they can get away with it, they'd sit you on someone's knee. The nicest restaurant we found was Ruina on the beach. It's an old looking building on the beach front, you can choose to sit up on the balcony or eat on the floored area on the beach. They sell fish and more fish, fab. Pick your own and they grill it for you. We had mussels, prawns, sole and swordfish (all were good). The waiters here were friendly and the place had a good atmosphere away from people gawping at your dinner plate as they wander past. This was the priciest place we found and is on a par with meals out in the UK but hey your on holiday for a reason.
Never ventured to the 'strip' when we went past it tended to be full of hen/ stag nights. Certainly lively and plenty of bars.
We took a taxi into vilamoura twice, it's €11/12 euros there from our hotel and up to €15 euros back. The taxi driver will point you the taxi rank for your return. Wander down to the marina and you will find lots of fab restaurants and bars ooh and a hagen dazs cafe. Vilamoura marina is fantastic, id stay there if I went back. They have plenty of water based activities and cruises going from there. The beach is long (5km i think) of stretched sandy beach. Try Ciao restaurant on the marina front, it's an italian restaurant where the waiters never slow down but are friendly and the place has a great atmosphere.
Oh one more thing, the pool area at weekends gets choca. When we were there, on Sat and Sundays big groups of spanish or local teenagers turned up and they take over the pool, they are noisy and have no manners (that was our experience).Funny the adults who are there with them, sit as far away as possible so no more said. But I think this will happen at most hotels, so it's only a minor point to help you plan your activities.
Have a nice time if you are visiting !! You will love it.
