We are a thirties couple with two boys aged 7 years and 10 years. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Luz Bay Club Hotel. It was ideally situated a short stroll from the small town of Luz with a great beach. The local restaurants in Luz are amazing we didnt have a bad meal all week and ate at a different place each night. Ones to look for are Chaplins, Atlantico and Cavaleiro da luz, all in Luz. The next small town along the coast Bergau, has an amazing restaurant on the beach (which i believe was called Beach Bar Bergau or similar) Its the only one there so you cant miss it. The Sea Bass there was to die for, it may well be worth your while booking in advance for that one as they say it gets very busy and rightly so!
The hotel was brilliant, my children loved all the pools and thought the turkish bath was great fun. The rooms were immaculate, ours was on two levels with a double bedroom upstairs and a kitchen/living area/bathroom and beds for the kids on the lower level. The kitchen was very well equiped and very clean and new, as was everything in the apartment. We had complimentary buffet breakfast which was more than enough, and very good quality. Serving continental breakfast, cooked english, toast, breads, croissants, fruit, yoghurts, fruit juices, coffee, tea etc every morning. The staff were friendly and efficient. We didnt eat in the hotel restaurant at lunch time or evening as there are so many local restaurants to try all at very good prices for the excellent food and service we recieved.
We hired a car for the duration of our stay and used it almost every day, visiting zoo marine (great dolphin/birds of prey/tropical birds/seal/sealion shows and rides for the kids), Albufiera, we visited the fishermans old town part, which was great. The westerly point Sao Vincente and Sagres, and Lagos where we went on a tall ship to visit the grotto caves, we pulled along our speed boat and transferred to that to get a closer look. For 15 Euros each we thought it was well worth the trip, thoroughly enjoyed it. You can get tickets from the Marina in Lagos.
We also visited Tiffanys horse riding school, where we had a half hour lesson followed by a trek up into the heathland. Amazing fun! the boys hadnt rode a horse before and when the instructor had finished with them they were budding cowboys. A very proffesional and safe school to take the family.
Every beach we visited on our trip was beautiful, lovely golden sand and deep blue sea. Luz itself is a very unspoilt area and we were incredibly happy with this as our choice. We would definitely highly recommend this hotel and location and we would not hesitate in going back again to Luz bay club another year.
