My wife and I stayed in Figueira da Foz for a few days in September 2009. We had some evening meals within the town and then one evening came across A Gaivota which is located in a side street. From the outside you do not have much impresion of the inside as there are coloured posters of the meals served covering the full area of the windows. These meals looked so good we went inside and each had a three course meal chosen from the extensive fish and meat menu. What I can tell you is that every choice of course we had was outstanding. The resaurant is run by a husband (Paulo) and his charming wife. Paulo does the main cooking and his wife makes the desserts. They are so welcoming and try so hard to make sure that everything you have is what you wanted and is well cooked and to your satisfaction. Paulo's wife was so interested that when we were asking about other desserts she makes and which we had not chosen she kindly went to the kitchen and brought a sample for us to try. What a change to find that the food has not been "brought in" as was the case in other establishments in the town. Everything had been home made. Finally the cost of the food and house wine was extremly excellent value. I would recommend this small restaurant to everyone visiting this lovely seaside town.
