The hotel is beatifully situated which makes for great views when sitting outside whilst eating at their restaurant and also the rooms are very nicely decorated to a high standard. However, the hotel does let itself down and is challenged by a number of factors:
- Poor maintenance - a number of the sun loungers are broken and so you cannot adjust them
- Variable service - when we asked the manager at the front desk for advice on what to see in Cascais and the surrounding area he just stared at us blankly - there are nice things to see, I know he has been there for over a year and so it is unclear as to why he did not have any advice. Also, the breakfast service staff did not know what was on offer in addition to the buffet.
- Second class guests if an event is on - we stayed over the weekend, the Saturday had two(!) weddings held at the venue and Sunday had a corporate event on - throughout our stay the restaurant was closed at lunch due to the events and it was difficult to get any service from the bar, plus they kept asking us to move as they moved around the different groups from the events making us feel like we should not be there.
In summary - I would not go back there for a holiday stay, however if you were considering hiring this place on an exclusive basis for an event I think it would be a good option.
Make sure you get a sea view - or the rooms below the entry lobby are also a good call as they have...

I would like to take this opportunity of your feedback on your recent stay at Farol Hotel to sincerely apologize for the inconvenience that you experienced and to thank you for your comments.
Please allow me to emphasize that this was indeed an isolated incident. During special events, the restaurant is closed at very rare occasions however certainly not at the expense of our in-house guests. Also please be assured that the repair of the sun loungers is well under way and that our front office team is certainly capable of guiding our guests to the most scenic and memorable spots in the area.
We would like to have you experience Farol Hotel as what it truly is and therefore would be delighted to have you back despite your concerns. We would be pleased to add some worthwhile value to your next stay with us to make up for the inconvenience you experienced at your recent stay.
