Best Western Hotel Inglaterra

Booked with Jetair-Tui. In their brochure rated as a ****. Local brochures indicate ***. Even this is exaggerated. Don't book half board. Dinner consists mostly of tinned goods. Don't as foor the duck on the limited menu. They don't have any. Don't expect the can supply everything of the wine list Don' book a balcony. You don't get one. And if you sue for it like we did, you don't use ist because of the construction noise and the icy north wind Don't ask for a breakfast before 7.30 am, because you have to pay room service and get no coffee nor tea. Don't expect any entertainment. Don't expect luggage carrier.
A save costs 3.5 euro a day. A coke at the swimming pool costs also 3.5 euro. Bring along your air freshener, because the leaking airco spotted the carpet. Don't expect to take a handsfree shower And now the good things:
- a TV in de bedroom + another in separate living room
- fresh fruit and the ice cream

“GRAND PLACE!”

Best Western Hotel Inglaterra

7 Jun 2008

A lovely big old hotel with super rooms and a lovely pool area. You walk down the steep hill to the beach, which is full of locals and has a great atmosphere. Fab train service that takes you along the coast and to the capital Lisbon. Caiscais is also a good beach, mainly locals when we were there (I know this because when it rained we stayed on our loungers which had 'roofs' on them, while all the locals fled to the safety and dryness of the cafe!
Lots of bars and restaurants - would recommend this hotel and this area of Portugal.

“Great Place!”

Ventura, CA

I am surprised that some folks rated this hotel as "terrible." At the very worst, its "average." However, my wife and I loved this place. The room was big and spacious. The view was great (Rm 403) and we had great interactions with the staff. They were helpful and, at times, even went out of their way to meet our request.

It is true, that the food and drinks are some what expensive, but that is to be assumed for most hotel. We both thought that the breakfast was great. Eggs, bacon, cereal, toast and breads, fruit, tea/coffee, sausage, juice, and more. It was all you need in a breakfast. It was not a gourmet meal by any means but it was still well catered. If you want to grab some great food and save some cash, there is a great little market about 100 yds away from the hotel (going toward the beach).

The grounds of the hotel are quite nice as well. There are some great out door seating areas and a pool. The little town of Estoril is pretty quiet with the biggest attraction being the casino. However, you can walk about half a mile or take a 1 minute train ride (1.15 euro) to Cascais which is a great little town. Cascais has many great restaurants, beaches, shops, and charm. We found that the Indian food restaurant near the train station was superb!

Also, the hotel is 20 minute train ride to lisbon. Its a great place to relax and you're not far from anything.

“Comfortable, but a bit lacking in atmosphere”

Best Western Hotel Inglaterra

Plymouth, United Kingdom

The Inglaterra is right in the centre of Estoril, just a few minutes walk from the famous Estoril Casino.
Estoril is reasonably pleasant, but Cascais just a mile or two down the road is much more attractive and has a much better choice of restaurants, shops etc.
It's a very attractive building, and has obviously seen much investment in recent years, with high quality furnishings in public areas and bedrooms.
To be honest it was a bit lacking in atmosphere when we stayed. We were the only customers in the bar in the evening, and just a few tables were occupied at breakfast, which made the whole place feel a bit empty and soulless.
But the bed was comfy, the shower was great, and the breakfast buffet was reasonably comprehensive (but poor quality fruit juices as usual in most hotels). And to be really picky, the kiwi fruit which looked so appetising on the breakfast buffet was hideously under-ripe and sour.
In all though, the hotel was very good quality for the price paid (under 100 Euros for a double room with breakfast).

“Extremely Disappointed”

We stayed here from 10th - 19th May 2008,what a mistake we made.
We got greeted well by a friendly receptionist and then had a meal. The evening dinner was expensive,Do not mind if it is decent, this waas thepoorest meal ever.My wife had a salad which consisted of very little content.I had chichen which was small legs in a stew style.Peasant food in a stew with a fancysauce, awful, the chips/batata fritter were freshly made and good. Very expensive and not filling. We never eat there again apart from breakfast,
Breakfast was dismal, food which should of been hot was cold, scrambled egg being one item.Lukewarm water for tea and staff whom had always to be asked to top up hot food did not seem trained in catering matters.Coffee was very stale and lukewarm..There were no tea/cofee making faciklities in the room,we upgraded to a suite which was okay but did not seem any bigger than a typical 4Star Hotel double room.Water was never very hot though. When on the rare occasion on an evening we went for a drink in the bar it seemed a great hassle for the young waitress to give peanuts with the drinks, when asked politely she tutted and poured a minute amount into a saucer for us from the remains of a bag.We felt all the time we were guests in a home who had outstayed their welcolme. There there always local christenings on which appeared to be the main buisness of Hotel Inglaterra,we were pushed aside. Not a 4 Star Hotel i would rate this a glorified bed and breakfast.Lovely coast, very poor restuarants, exhoribant prices and poor quality apart from the steak house in Hotel Villa Gale, but the waitresses were rude.Good for gambleres to waste their money in the nearby casino and a boring holiday if you want it.

We would recommend Vilamoura in the Algarve to viist and highly recommend the Vila Gale Hotel there where we stayed in November 2007.

PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS B AND B.
