We spent a week here at the end of July. The room wa lovely, very clean and stylish with a view of the bay. The buffet breakfast gave a good choice including lots of prepared freash fruit, loads of different breads, cold meats and cheese and a small hot selection. The pool is a reasonable size and there were lots of loungers with no early morning reserving going on. The poolside bar does a good selection of daytime snacks and drinks although you can order aff the full restaurant menu and have lunch served in the shade of a tree. The only slight down was the resort itself which was very quite. The Casino dinner/show was well worth a visit as was the Handicrafts Festival (don't be put of by the title) in the gardens in front of the Convention Centre. More life can be found a stroll round the bay on Cascais.

We loved it and will go back.

When we checked in, the room we had requested (king bed, non smoking) was not "available." We asked why and they said that non-smoking wasn't guaranteed. The first room they put us in had a leaky ceiling and we were put next in a small, dark room with two twin beds pushed together. After staying there for our first night, we were told they'd switch us to a better room the second night, but when we approached the (very rude) gentleman at the front desk the next day, they said it wasn't available. We ended up in a smoking room with a king bed for the next two nights. Luckily it did not smell of smoke (and was much nicer). It was on the top floor with lovely views of the town and sea, and was light and airy. Make sure if you stay here to stay on the top floor.
The pool is lovely with a great bar that has coffee, drinks, and snacks. The bathrooms and changing areas by the pool are also nice. It is a bit difficult to get a chair by the pool unless you arrive early in the day. Also, we were there in July 2007 and the construction next door that other visitors have mentioned was still going on. the bright green construction netting and occasional sounds of a jackhammer do not make sitting by the pool not as relaxing as one might wish. The lounges and lobby were done very nicely, and the whole hotel has a lovely modern look with nice art and furniture. However, we were surprised to find that even though this property was bought and renovated by Best Western in 2004, the rooms still had stains on the rugs.
Everything at this hotel is a la carte; they charge for internet and breakfast is not included. The hotel breakfast at 10 Euro each is a ripoff; we walked instead to a lovely cafe right down the street next to a great little grocery store every day. The hotel's location is very convenient, only about 5 minutes walk to the beach and train station, and a 20-minute walk to Cascais.

“Beautifully decorated, modern hotel in great area, but with a few problems”

Manchester
17 Jul 2007

Myself and my boyfriend stayed here from 5th July till 12th. The hotel is very modern, funky and clean. We searched the internet looking for the best deal and eventually booked through travelrepublic who worked out the cheapest and flew from Manchester with Thomsonfly (through skyscanner to find the cheapest day to fly).

It is a very couply hotel and there were a few families there too, and generally it was very laid back and chilled and never were all the sun loungers full!

A short 5 min walk to the train station takes you into Cascais (5mins) or through to Lisbon (30mins). Both about €1.60 one way-Great value! You are also 5 minutes from the beach and a lovely walk through to Cascais along the seaside.

Food wise, we thought the breakfast in the hotel was quite boring and disappointing (not a great selection). We never stayed at the hotel for dinner, but its difficult getting any service at the hotel bar on a night!

Outside the hotel there are only a few restaurants in Estoril in particular the steak house ('Inevitavel') at the bottom of the hill which was amazing!. We also went to the Casino to see the show FOUR which was fantastic although this including 1 drink each turned out to be very expensive €40! Most of the time we went to Cascais to eat, but beware most of the obvious tourist trap restaurants will over charge you for rubbish bog standard food so its best to go off down some of the side streets.

A few problems in the hotel were no kettle in the room (perhaps this is a British thing?), and no concierge. My boyfriend also got a nasty cut on his head in the hotel gym and the hotel claimed to only have one plaster and were not very sympathetic considering blood was quite obviously soaking through. We were also being woken up everyday by the building work (angle grinder) across the street, which unfortunately carried on until the early evening so wherever you were in the hotel (including by the pool) you could hear it. I would also agree with the previous comment that the pool is too close to the main road and although being ok most of the time when a large truck or bus drives past it gets a bit noisey.

I hope that gives you a good reflection of our stay upon which to base your decision. Aesthetically it is very nice and should the problems not occured we would have probably given it 5 out of 5.

“Classy, well run and friendly Hotel”

Best Western Hotel Inglaterra

We were a party of 3 family members and opted to share a suite in this area of Portugal which is a happy medium between having a city or seaside getaway. We stayed in this hotel for 2 weeks and had EXTENSIVELY searched on the web before choosing it. After arrival and few days sussing out the place we felt that it was the best option for a hotel in Estoril - we nearly went for the Palacio but couldnt justify the higher cost as aside from soft furnishings, there is not much between these hotels only that the Inglaterra is smaller and boutique style. Our suite room was on the 4th floor, overlooking the pool, Palacio hotel and the sea . Room was equipped properly (with nice fluffy robes) except not enough storage/ wardrobe space, so we had to leave some luggage unpacked. Chamber maid kept the rooms spotless, the hotel is very clean. Breakfast was very well done, a good mix of fruit/ cereal/ breads etc and each day a different selection from the hotcounter, but always scrambled eggs. We had dinner there one evening, it was nice but better found it better to eat out - for variety. The Train station is a 5 minute walk from the hotel and only cost about EUR 3 each for return train fare into Lisbon city!! Taxis were also good value, as we had a few overcast days and got a taxi to "Cascais Shopping", a large shopping mall that's a 10 minute taxi ride for about EUR4.50. Cascais is more lively and definately has more options for dining out, so we ended up there most evenings, walking along the very beautiful promenade /sometimes getting the train back to Estoril - only takes about 3 minutes for EUR 1.50 each . Overall, we felt that we picked the best hotel in Estoril, the others we saw in the area did not look well kept. Note to anyone looking to go there in the near future, there is building being erected next to this hotel and looks like another 3 months structural work. The only negatives about the hotel is that there is a road either side, one is for residential access so that was no problem, but on the other side there is another road and this has a steady stream of traffic including it being the bus route to Cascais Shopping and Sintra so sitting by the pool was not the most peaceful of experiences. By the way, the veranda overlooking the pool is beautiful - exactly like the photos! Hope this review helps you make your decision. I'm not normally this long winded on reviews but think I've covered the essentials!
