“Best location in town”

Nice clean place, very friendly staff, good breakfast. Quaint glass door to en-suite bathroom !
Perfect location, walk to stations, water front, shops. Good cafe next door and smart restaurant next to that. Obviously can be noisy but so what, get up and get out!
Much better than many posher places way back towards the airport. Oh yes, the airport bus stops in the square, almost outside.
Lisbon is lovely.

The location of this hotel could not be better. Our room was very clean and we had no complaints about the hotel at all. What sets it apart from other hotels is the calibre of the staff who were all extremely helpfull and friendly. I even received a bottle of champagne in my room on my Birthday. A lovely surprise ! They had spotted my date of birth on my passport. Would deffinitely recommend this hotel for a weekend break in Lisbon.

“Nice Older Hotel in Good Location”

The Metropole is what I'd call a "decent" hotel. Nothing specifically
wrong with it, just not outstanding. It's in a very convenient location for sightseeing, but be aware that the square it sits on is surrounded by roadway, which means traffic at all times of day and night and the balcony doors if you're in a square-facing room like we
were do little to block the noise. Our corner room was very spacious,
and was furnished with what the hotel propaganda says was antique furniture installed in a 1990's renovation (the television also seemed a bit on the antique side). To us, the furnishings just seemed
"old", but that could just be a style judgement. As tourists, we expect modern conveniences and non-dated rooms. The beds were short for us and we're 5'9" and 5'10"...not sure what someone taller would think. The bathroom was nice, other than some mold and mildew in the
shower tile grout that could've easily been cleaned had they taken time to do it. The bathroom door curiously had no latch..we had to sit the garbage can in front of it to keep it from blowing open when in use if the balcony doors were open. Breakfast was included and was
the pretty standard buffet. It seemed to get quite busy around 8:30 or 9:00 in the morning so get there before then if possible. The front desk staff were very helpful and all seemed to speak fluent English.

I stayed 3 nights in the Metropole in April 2007. Cost was 75EUR which was a good rate compared to other hotels I researched. I was traveling by myself and arrived in Lisbon without a hotel reservation. I booked the Metropole through the main tourist office.

Being a single female, I felt very safe and really enjoyed the common bar area as I met a lot of people when having a nightcap in the bar. As mentioned in other reviews, the best thing about this hotel is the location. You can't get better if you want a central Lisbon location. You can walk virtuall everywhere and if you can't, the metro stop is across the square from the hotel. Restaurants and shopping are right outside the door and you can easily walk to the castle up on the hill. I suggest getting a room on the front side of the hotel because you will enjoy the views (although it is a bit noisier due to traffic). The rooms are a bit dated and the carpet is worn, it was a large clean room and the bathroom was very nice and spacious.

I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a reasonably priced centrally located hotel in Lisbon.

“Great location, good value”

Hotel Metropole

I spent 2 nights at the Metropole with two friends and it really did have location, location, location in its favour. It is situated on Rossio, the central square that you end up passing through on your way to most other sites.

We had a triple room and both the room and bathroom were spacious. Our room looked out onto the small road behind the hotel, but it was very quiet. Breakfast was included and was fine, though nothing special - I would recommend you do what we did and head down to Belem for pasties de nata one morning instead!

The hotel was clean, the staff were polite and helpful and I would not hesitate to stay there again.
