My husband and I stayed at the Britania 21-26 May based on other trip advisor user reviews. And it's true. It is a stylish hotel with friendly staff that is perfectly located. Oh and the bed was incredibly comfortable, the room was beautifully decorated, large and immaculately clean, the bathroom well equipped with a bubbly bath of hot water available in moments, the street quiet, and the breakfast wide ranging and tasty. The metro stop is very close - and the airport bus stops at the same place and it's easy to find. We ate in a number of local eateries including Luca and La Caffa, and there are plenty of others to choose from as you aren't far from the centre. We found cafe and restaurant recommendations in the Lonely Planet guide to Lisbon very good. Be warned though - Lisbon is very cobbled - you really do need strong and comfortable shoes! Great things to do while there include seeing the Lalique jewellery collection on display at the Gulbenkian and the art deco exhibition (until Sept 2007) on in Sintra (half an hour's train journey from Lisbon).

I'll be brief:

*Fantastic (really!) service from quality personnel
*Great location near but not in the middle of all the action in Baixa and Bairro Alto
*The cleanest rooms I've ever stayed in
*Attractive art deco style
*Delicious breakfasts

Recommended - excellent hotel +++++++++++++

“World class service”

A fantastic hotel in a fantastic country.
Couldnt be easier to find couldnt be in a better location with easy access to buses, trams and metro.
We have a motto where i work; "People dont care how much you know but they want to know that you care. From the reception staff, the barman and the cleaner all showed they cared. On top of that the rooms were fantastic. good size and if you are lucky, a great balcony with relaxing chairs. The only 2 small things that were not perfect were, the view from the balcony (there wasnt one) and if you were unlucky you had to wait for a breakfast table. But the breakfast was really good and the fact that we received a complimentary carafe of port wine in our room made up for the 2 small defiencies.

“Hotel with Heart”

Britania Hotel

We booked 2 double rooms and arrived by train took the underground to Avenida and walked for 3 or 4 minutes to Britania. We were greeted by a handsome, friendly receptionist with a great sense of humour. As it was only 9.30am we left our luggage and went out to discover Lisbons highlights.

Returning to the hotel about 5.00pm we checked in smoothly and went to our room on the 5th floor. The room and bed were an impressive size and the bed most comfortable. The mini bar had reasonable prices, the bathroom toiletries were provided, the floor cork tiles soft underfoot - nice touches like slippers and bathrobes were unexpected.

What really makes this hotel special is the perfectly restored furniture and bathroom together with the staff who clearly take a pride in their work. It makes a refreshing change to stay in a hotel where you are made to feel so welcome. Immaculately clean, great breakfast buffet, good position, friendly helpful staff - what more could you ask for?

“Quality property lived up to high ranking”

Britania Hotel

22 Apr 2007

I spent three days at this smaller hotel and it lived up to its high ranking and my expectations. The personnel were very helpful, attentive, and professional. The property was absolutely clean, well maintained and up to date and my room was on the larger size for Europe and very quiet. Another couple I was traveling with had the same experience with their room on another floor. Since all the rooms face the front and are similar I would expect the same from any room on any floor. The heating/cooling system was effective and whisper quiet. The only disturbance was about 5 minutes of a garbage truck that worked its way down the street between 11 and midnight. I like to have a good breakfast and while the hotel does not have a restaurant the buffet breakfast had a good selection to choose from that was kept fresh. If/when I come back to Lisbon on business or pleasure I will stay here again. No, this hotel does not have the breadth of services of much larger hotels but it impeccably executes on providing a clean, peaceful, comfortable, and surprise free hotel stay. My only suggestions to the hotel is to keep doing what they are doing now.
