We booked 2 nights here to relax before meeting friends for a couple of weeks in Portugal. Fortunately, we didn't really want to sightsee because the hotel is not close to anything (it's in a residential/commercial area) except a large enclosed shopping center, Amoreiras, almost directly across a divided roadway. The center is open long hours, has a grocery store and a number of restaurants. That's useful because the hotel only has one restaurant with a rather limited menu (except for breakfast, which is quite ample). There is a large elaborately furnished lobby, but no other public amenities -- no small shop for newspapers, maps, no business center, etc. The lobby and hallways always seemed heavy with smoke. The room was clean and decently furnished but without a working desk. Internet was available in the room, but expensive (22€/day). Rather an odd place.

As an extremely picky traveller having stayed at the world's best, I found Dom Pedro an absolute disappointment. Yes - it has a Spa which had just openned but the jaccuzzi was freezing cold. Yes - the rooms were spacious but no proper work desk. The toilettries in the bathroom were sub-standard for a 5 star. The bath had only a shower curtain (and only one at that - normally should be double layer). No face towels in a 5 star hotel is unheard of! Location is a problem and out of the way. The area apart from the shopping centre opposite was in a middle to lower class neighbourhood. I could go on... but basically Sheraton, Tivoli Lisboa, Bairo Alto, Sofitel are more luxurious even though some are only 4 star rated and their locations are much better. I've been to each hotel mentioned and compared the rooms and what they have to offer. Rest assurred, Dom Pedro can not be considered on par with the ones mentioned above.

Good things: spacious room, good bed, nice breakfast - especially fruit, what a view if you get 18th, shopping center over street.
Bad things: impersonal bussiness district, you have to use taxi for everything (fortunately not very expensive), limited dining facilities.
Interior contrasts exterior so much. I'm not sure it's good or bad.
When Portuguese will get some european culture and stop smoking in public places?

“A new, modern hotel”

Dom Pedro Palace

I stayed at this hotel for two nights last week. It is a modern, high-rise building, not quite as grand as the nearby Ritz but still pretty impressive. My room was large and spacious. Unlike an earlier reviewer, I was not aware of any smokiness, though I hate the smell of tobacco, and the air-conditioning system in my room functioned almost too well when the temperature outside was above 30 degrees. The room was clean, but I was a little put off when I found used soap placed in the bathroom. My impression was that although the staff were generally polite and willing to help, they were not necessarily well trained or experienced.

The hotel is about 10-15 minutes' walk from a large and very busy roundabout called Praca Marques de Pombal with a Metro station and several bus stops (including the one for Airport buses). But despite the hotel's own description, it is not in the centre of the city. The area looked somewhat run down with some dilapidated buildings. When I first arrived, I was disappointed because I saw few shops, cafes, restaurants, etc. near the hotel. However, I soon found a large shopping centre called Amoreiras, which is practically next to the hotel, contained lots of shops (including a supermarket) and eating places (though mostly fast food) and stayed open till late. So I was able to get drinks, etc., from there rather than use the horribly marked-up drinks and snacks in the minibar of my room.

The breakfast was abundant and excellent. The hotel has an internet room, where you can use a computer free of charge.

This is a bargain and the view from my room is fantastic. The size of the room and batheroom is also great.
The service is not what I would expect from a four or five star hotel.

The lobby and corridors are VERY smoky! There are NO non smoking areas at this hotel.

Maintenance and Service needs improvment
Our wake up call never happened, we gave up on room service after a long wait of over an hour.
When you need a shower there is no hot water at certain times of the day.
The temperature in the room was too hot ! We could not sleep at night, it was a very warm day and the air conditioning was not “chilling” the air was coming out at normal air temperature.
Maintenance and Service needs to be improved
