“Great hotel, friendly staff”

Tivoli Jardim Hotel

My husband and I stayed at the Tivoli Jardim for a week over Thanksgiving. The front desk checked us in early and we were given a great room with a balcony on the 7th floor with a partial view of the Castelo Sao Jorge. The room had twin beds pushed together and was very clean.

The room had all the necessities - TV with English channels (BBC, CNN, SkyNews and MSNBC), minibar, safe, hairdryer in bathroom and plenty of closet space.

The staff was extremely friendly and most spoke some English and they tried not to laugh when we butchered their language.

The breakfast was good with hot items such as bacon, scrambled eggs, sausage and tomatoes along with fresh fruits, pastries, cereal, cheeses and hams.

The location of the hotel is SUPERB! It's just a few minutes walk to the Avenida metro stop and restaurants.

The Tivoli Jardim is a good value and we highly recommend it!

“Good Hotel - Bad Staff”

My friend and I stayed in the Tivoli Jardim for 9 days in early November. The hotel is exceptionally clean and in a good location. We found the majority of the staff to be unfriendly...and one in particular shouted at me. Because we were staying in the hotel for an extended period of time, I requested via email a week or so before our arrival a large room with balcony. When we arrived, our room was small, no balcony and our air conditioner was broken. Later that evening, I approached the front desk and informed then that our air conditioner wasn't blowing out cold air. They sent a technician up to our room who agreed that it was not working properly. He fiddled around with it and we thought it was working a little better. That night we realised it definitely was not working at all as we were hot and sweaty all night long! The next morning we approached the front desk again and informed them about the air conditioner (rude bald man enters)...he proceeded to raise his voice and say this time of year we do not turn on the air conditioners because people complain of being cold. I didn't understand...if each room has a personal air conditioner and heater, why would people be compaining about being cold when they have the option to turn on the heat, if necessary? Like wise for people like us who are too hot, we can adjust the air conditioner to our liking. He raised his voice and said, there is no air conditioning or heat in the hotel this time of year. I told him that I booked the hotel under the impression that every room is equipped with air conditioning...I would not have chosen to spen 9 nights in a hotel that I would be uncomfortable in. He thre his hands up and started walking away. I explained that because I am a diabetic I tend to get hot very easily due to my blood sugar and not having air conditioning was unacceptable. I inquired about being transferred to the Tivoli Hotel across the street who keep the air conditioning available to guests all year round. After telling us everything was turned off this time of year, someone elkse chimed in and said they would have the tech look at the air conditioner again...here's the confusion...if you are telling me none of the units are providing air conditioning, why on earth are you having the tech look at the air conditioner? I cannot tell you how absolutely absurd all of this was. I was very angry for being treated so rudly (the rude bald man walked away from me - to be honest, I was not being rude to him at all, so I could not understand his agressiveness towards me!) The tech went to look at the unit again and again said it was not working. Later that evening after returning to the hotel, we were able to speak to someone at the front desk who was very courteous and said we could move to another room of our liking and the air conditioning will be available. We chose a large room with a balcony with sufficent air conditioning. It was right across the hall from our original room. Why weren't we put into the room I requested in the first place??? I guess I will never quite understand it...It was unfortunate we had to go through such an annoyance, but I am glad it was sorted out. The food was good, the room was nice and the loaction is superb. I just wish the front desk and waitresses were a little more friendly...in fact...they could stand to be a lot more friendly. In conclusion, while I would recommend this hotel for the price/location, please keep in mind that if you should run into an issue and require customer service...you are likely to run into a big headache. Also, watch out for the rude bald guy...he's got a short fuse.

This hotel has a great location, spotless rooms, good variety for breakfast and friendly staff. Lunch and dinner are also served at this hotel at very reasonable rates. Great value for money. We even got a discount for filling out their hotel survey. Would definitely stay here again.

“Good deal for price and location”

I stayed here based on Tripadvisor reviews and was not disappointed. I normally stay in inexpensive pensions in Spain and Portugal (this is my 12th time in Lisbon), but found this to be worth the money.
The location, a 10-15 minute walk up Ave Liberdade from the main tourist attractions was perfect, as the closer you get to the main squares, the seedier it gets (one reason why I switched). It is quite easy to walk everywhere.
I stayed in expensive hotels numerous times, and felt this was equal in comfort, amenities, and service. I am familiar with the more expensive neighbors, and think this is an excellent value. My room was quiet, the breakfast was excellent, and the staff was friendly.
Despite being a regular (7 stays) at an excellent pension that costs only 35 euros for a single (with bath), I intend to stay here next trip.

We found the Tivoli Jardim to be a comfortable, modern hotel suitable for both business and pleasure.
Being located just off the Av Liberdade, it is easily reached by bus from the Airport. (nos 44,45 and 91). It is also an easy 10/15 minute walk to the central Lisbon areas.
Our room was of average size, well furnished and in a good state of repair. A breakfast buffet was included in the rate and as mentioned in a previous review, a really excellent fruit salad bowl was provided.
We found the Hotel staff to be helpful and ameniable in our requests for a later check-out and bag storage.
We did not use the Hotel restaurant but would recommend to shellfish lovers the Restaurant Ribadouro located one block south of the Hotel.
Also, even if on a short stay, make the effort to visit Sintra, a Unesco World Heritage Site. It has castles, palaces, gardens and is just one hour away by train. With Rossio Station closed you need to catch the train from Roma-Areerio Stn which is accessed by the Green Metro Line.
