Having read previous reviews on this website we decided to book the Clarion Suites for a 4 day break over the August bank holiday.
We got a taxi from the airport which cost us 12 Euros (everything in Lisbon was incredibly cheap!) and arrived about 20 mins later at the hotel. We were on the 6th floor and despite only paying £200 for 4 nights we had a suite consisting of a large twin bedroom, a living room with sofa, chairs, TV, dining table & open plan kitchenette - amazing!
The rooms were nicely decorated and very clean with loads of cupboard space & mirrors. The staff were very helpful & friendly and spoke perfect English. The one thing I would disagree with other reviews is that the location isn't fantastic. It is in quite a commercial area with not much nearby. On Sunday EVERYTHING is closed and we walked around for about 30 mins trying to find a cafe to have breakfast!
It is only a 5 minute walk to the metro, buses go from the main road and the tourist bus even goes from just down the road, but it is a pretty long walk down the Avenida da Liberdade (it is a nice walk I grant you, but a long way!)
We had mixed weather - we left the UK in sunshine (where did that come from?!) and awoke the next day in Lisbon to thick cloud & drizzle! Out of 4 days we had 1.5 cloudy days (full on cloud with no sun) but when the sun was out the rest of the time the sky was perfect blue and it was roasting.
We were too knackered from all our sightseeing to really get to grips with the nightlife, but the good areas we found were Bairro Alto & Docas. Bairro Alto is quite trendy & 'studenty' - we investigated the area in the day and found nothing then re-visited at night and all the previously closed doors & windows had opened up into great little bars & restaurants. Docas is also very nice, on the harbour with the bridge overhead, much 'posher' with lovely outside seating & some lively bars.
