“2nd Stay in this Hotel”

Novotel Lisboa

A return trip to Lisbon so I choose this Hotel again. It is great value and in a safe area.
The hotel is not in the main toursit area of Lisbon, rather in a Business area with good transport links and fast access to the main part of central Lisbon. Taxi at EUR5 or Metro at .75 cents to central. There are a number of Hotels on this street and area so prices are competitive though not much night life which also keeps the area safer.
To get to hotel from Airport on public transport involves airport bus or No45 to downtown then Metro.
The hotel bar is reasonably priced as is room service.
Staff were friendly and attentive with a variety of languages spoken. There is a pool but I did not try it.
Good sized rooms and spacious bathroom.

“I liked it but there were some problems”

Novotel Lisboa

Let me start by saying that I liked this hotel. The rooms were nice and large (bare in mind that it was being shared by 2 adults and 2 kids) and the air con was doing its job admirably. The breakfast was good with a wide variety of choices for 9 Euros per adult and the kids ate for free :-) There appeared to be ample parking beneath the hotel as well. Ok, now the downside. If you want to use the metro, you have to walk around the back of the hotel and then under a less than salubrious underpass. Fine during the day but not somewhere I'd like to be at night with kids. Taxis are cheap though. Secondly, the safe in our room was locked so I had to find a member of staff to open it before we went out. The biggest issue we had was that when we returned to the room late (9:30 pm is late for our kids), we found that the sofa bed was broken. I rang reception but had to go down in the end and explain the situation. The receptionist came straight away, realised that the bed was broken and offered us the room opposite. We had to move all our stuff and the kids who were by now in our bed. Not a great way to end a lovely day. When we checked out the following day, we said that we weren't happy that this had happened and they gave us a 50% discount and waived the parking fee which I felt was a very good gesture on their part. So with this in mind, I would happily recommend this hotel but if you have kids with you, TEST THE SOFA BED FIRST!!!!

“Excellent, mostly. 4.5 stars.”

Very good hotel. Good value at 79 Euro incl breakfast, very helpful staff, decent breakfast, nice room, early check-in, all very good.

Coupla not-so-good points:
- No wifi or wired broadband in the room (though I managed to find some free network out the window intermittently)
- I had prepaid but they tried to charge me again at checkout due to a mixup. Once I showed them the booking confirmation it was fine.

Oh - don't eat at the 'Lusitana' restaurant down the hill. It's not good.

I'd go back.

Typical Novotel: nice, clean, modern and confortable. I really enjoy their accomodation's standards.
And the staff at the front desk of this particular location was the most simpathetic we met in the trip. Congratulations on the Novotel Lisboa Jose Malhoa. I will certainly stay there when coming back to your charming city.
Keep up with the good work!
